Janus Hassidor Missing (possible spoilers)

Post by peejee »

Hi, noob here. So I'm playing my first character, and have gotten pretty far. I've only played the original content, no expansion as of yet, PC version.

So I got bite by a vampire a while ago, and slowly worked my way through the cure quest. Meanwhile before completing that quest I got the Information at a Price, completed it. Then I completed the cure quest. Did a bunch of other stuff. I decided to turn both in at the same time. So I go in and talk to Hal-Liurz she tells me to wait and he will be down shortly. So I wait and wait and wait some more.

How long am I suppose to wait? While waiting I've managed to get my Restoration up 8 points, sneak up 3, and acrobatics up 2. I waited no less than 2 game days. I went out of the house, waited another 24 hours, went back and Hal-Liurz stills says the count is coming. I went off did a couple of other quests, come back and still no sign of him.

Is there something I can do, or do I just need to pull up a seat and just sit and wait for him without trying to skill up while waiting?

Good Timing!

Hi, Peejee!

I was just doing the Mage's Guild quests with him involved! To answer your questions, don't leave! That simply cancels your appointment, and you have to make a new one each time. Just stay there and wait for quite awhile if need be. I find that the wait is shorter if it is dark, as he's a vampire after all!
During the day, it takes him longer to prepare to meet and greet. Using the "wait" option for a whole day though, messes with that timing as it will still be day the next day. So try to do it at night, if you want it short.

Unless you have his disposition up to 100%, then he hurries. Well, at least that is how it seems to me thus far.

If I'm mistaken about the day and night hours, somebody else may tell you so. Hm. Let me look in the official guide book. Well, nothing specific in it.

So here is this link: http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Oblivion:Janus_Hassildor

I hope that helps!

Thanks for responding. I tried everything, going back to some old saves, and working my way through it again, and then waiting for 5 real hours, doing laundry and dishes while waiting. He never showed, but my house got cleaned lol. I finally just used the console command to move the quest up a level, which ended the Information for a Price quest, and allowed me to speak with him for the Cure quest. And it only took him about 2 minutes after she left to tell him i was there to come down the stairs. I'm just glad to progress without loosing a lot and having to do alot all over again.

For future reference the 'Information for a price' quest also conflicts with the Main Quest, 'Allies for Bruma' in a very similar way, again the only solution I found being the setstage console function. Best to avoid such conflicts by making sure that no other quest involving Janus Hassildor is active when you take on the 'Information for a price' quest.

You are welcome! "Shirley" is one of my favorite names as I was once in love with a "Shirley Jo Munday" back in the late 1970's & early 1980's. I unintentionaly tackled her in a game of football and she was on my team and then we ran into each other racing for the gate in my backyard. One of those collisions resulted in a broken collar bone for her. I've been feeling guilty ever since. :(

But anyway, Galraen is correct! I went back to my game to wait for him too. It took leaving the game to get Hal-Liuz to leave and get him! Then I had to wait awhile too, but not as long as I'd waited before, before I realized that she was stuck and not going to go get him.

Enjoy the game!

We Shirley's are tough little cookies LOL. Poor girl. That's great tackle your own team members lol. I'm sure she forgave you. Don't feel guilty crap happens.

Back to the game, going away from my first question, can you delete old saves? I get a little save happy and have about 550, yes that was 5 hundred saves. I had read so many threads and stuff about save often. And with the Thief's Guild quests, I would save after every movement lol. Is there a safe way of deleting a few hundred of them? I'm on the PC version.

Thanks

Ah, her father was my first Scoutmaster. Plus, the operation needed to fix her cost $10,000.00 even back then! It was her best friend Janet that was making me fell guilty about it. I suppose Shirley did eventially forgive me, for when I went into a gas station years later, she happened to be the clerk. She gave me a nice set of pictures of her to remember her by. :) But the part I felt bad the most about, was that she didn't end up being a girlfriend. :(

Sure! Just be sure that you want to do so! In the menu where you load and save games, simply shift & click on one and it will ask you if you want to delete it or not. Choose yes or no as you desire. Just in case you goofed up though, they have a back-up in the saved games file that is kept seperate from the regular game files. I was happy to find those! If you need to save hard drive space, you can transfer to disk from there, or delete as needed.

Thanks

You are welcome!
