hey everyone.

i am loosing my tether with oblivion now. i bum the game. i love playing it and have done for ages. iv got really far- level 22 and its awesome. but suddenly its stopped working *cry* =[

the main title screen will load up, and so will my game. i can walk around and attack and everything, its quite normal until i fast travel or enter a new screen. the screen goes black and says:

"Oblivion has stopped working. A problem caused the program to stop working correctly. Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available."

I've been looking around and it seems a lot of people have the same problem. yet no one seems to find a solution for it. i would really appreciate it if any one could help me =]

heres some other information that might help:

* i have uninstalled and reinstalled
* i use the shivering isles expansion pack
* i have changed it to run as administrator
* i have changed it to run in windows xp mode
* i have downloaded the patch from The Elder Scrolls
* i have downloaded oldblivion
* i also play dungeon keeper 2 on my computer. the same thing happens to this game too. it works fine until i try to enter a new screen. the same message appears "a problem causeed the program to stop working correctly.." this would imply that its not merely something wrong with oblivion?

Computer stats:

* Windows Vista Business
* Processor: Intel® Core™2 Duo CPU E8200 @ 2.66GHz. 2.67GHz
* Memory (RAM): 2.00 GB
* System Type: 64-bit
* ATI Radeon HD 4800 Series

let me know if there is anything else you would like to know =]
and thankyou to anyone who takes the time to read this and try to help me =]

I'm not techi, but one thing I do know is that Oblivion needs to be loaded onto a freshly defragged machine. Also, if you have LOTS of saved games, get rid of any you will never use again. And defrag again. It may not solve the problem, but it may.

Also - do you get a screen after the crash that says it has created a report for you to send to Window, and then totally shuts shop when you try to do so? That's what happens to me. So I've learned not to send the report. I just close that little window, and the game closes to desktop, so you can reload it.

Also - make sure your machine isn't overheating - are the fans working properly? Does your game drive function as it should? Or should you gat an ovehaul or new one?

Worked for me...

hate to say it but i had the same prob... game crashed after bout 10 min of play. i read one site that said to dissable your sound card in the device manager and after i played with no sound the game only crashed once in 8 hours of play.
hope this helps... silence sucks but so is reloading your game every few minutes

Whilst defragmenting your hard drive is never a bad idea, that's extremely unlikely to be what's causing this problem. Also saying that Oblivion needs to be installed on a newly defragged machine is, shall we say, an inaccurate obvservation.

There are a few things that could be causing this, nailing down what exactly the problem is could be tricky.

The first thing I'd suggest is posting this in the tech forum, you could simply ask a mod to move the thread, which wold be useful.

The first thing we need to know is have you upgraded any of your audio or video drivers recently?

Are you the sole user of the PC and are you running these programs as the administrator?

Are you experiencing any problems other than the two you mentioned, watching videos on Youtube for example?
