Save game error

Post by Schneggie87 »

Hi, Every time i install TOB on my comp it completes without errors and the game runs fine but as soon as any kind of save happens i get a message telling me "save game failed" and since baldur's gate is a save heavy game I therefore cant play without being able to save the game... I'm running vista btw... any help would be welcome
THANKS!

Vista sucks, I have an old XP computer for gaming...

Have you tried Bioware's homepage? In the SoA forum I saw someone finding a solution to a Vista problem there.

How much empty hard drive space do you have?

I don't think it has anything to do with memory.

I installed Baldur's Gate on my girlfriend's computer a year back and had the same problem, she had some 30GB free. It's probably one of those Vista quirks.

Here are my general BG troubleshooting tips, written in order:
-try setting the "save" folder to read&write (check after to see if it stays that way).
-try deleting the "tempsave" folder.
-delete the "temp" folder and make a new, empty one in same place.
-make sure your running bg2 as administrator.
-restart comp
-Play.

Hope that helps! Some combination of these methods has helped me through all problems.
edit: Other good things to check for: most updated version of game
re-install game
re-install using different copy of game.

Actually, I've had a similar problem since I've had my new computer. Thing is though... I'm running XP Pro... I am able to work around it simply be creating different save slots, but it can get irritating.
So, maybe it is just an issue with newer machines???

Disable ALL anti virus software/spyware/ protection programs. A had the same problem in IWD+HoW+TotL while running KIS (Kaspersky Internet Security). I turned it off and problem disappeared.
