Make Oblivion fun in 10 steps (?)

Post by SupaCat »

There's propably a similiar thread like this one, if so sorry. Anyway, Oblvion has a addiction factor like no other game I know and the worst part is that I always get bored with the after 10 minutes or so, I actually really don't like the game. However, since the game can apparently be fun with many mods, I can only ask : which ones? What mods can make this game worthwhile?

I looked at Filefront and saw there a top 10 list of mods you must have, but since it's over 2 years old, I can only ask of you to give me you essential mods. Why only 10? Over 3000 mods like some play with, is I think too much for my computer and would take too much of your time to be sure.

Hmm... In no particular order of preference:

1. Alchemy at Home (You can just click on the alchemy tools without having to equip them... very nice in a game where placing objects is a pain in the arse)
2. Francesco's (total game overhaul)
3. Ambient Sounds
4. Book Jackets
5. Book Placement
6. Border Removal
7. TNR (improves the appearance of the NPCs and makes the races distinguishable from one another)
8. Cyrodiil Transportation Network (makes travel like MW)
9. Quest Popup Removal
10. No More Annoying Messages

It is actually very difficult for me to restrict it to ten, since I have a whole raft I view as "must absolutely have." However the above mods are definitely high in the "indispensable" category.

This is a list I found somewhere else. Anyway, since I'm downloading them all (including those from Dragon Wench), can you tell me if any of them are in conflict with each other? (I'm looking specificly at lost spires, black cat store and all the unique landscapes and natural enviroments)

1)All the unique landscapes
2)Francesco's leveled
3)Natural enviroments
4)The lost spires
5)Visible when distant
6)Qarl's teksture pack
7)Adonnays elven weaponry
8)Beaming sunglare
9)Actors in charge
10)The black cat store

A really nice list to check out can be found here, in case you wanted yet more information :D
In addition to listing and describing some good mods the site owner also gives some useful advice about load order.
can you tell me if any of them are in conflict with each other?
I seem to recall reading that there may be conflicts with Natural Environments, Qarl's and Unique Landscapes... I'm not sure though, so you'll want to doublecheck. Load order plays a critical part so you'll probably want to experiment.

Is there a mod that makes me go into the tower of the mages without having completed their campaign? Also, what is your opinion on the smaller grasses, are there any conflicts?

Also, is there a mod that makes sure I have scares after heavy battles, fable style?

And just a quick question: What's with the guy in the arena? I'm maximum age and he calls ME a kid? Seriously Bethesda, why implent age if your not going to make different dialogues for it?

Not to the best of my knowledge, no. However, there is a house mod that provides alters for both enchanting and spell making. you can get it here.
I gather the mod that makes grasses smaller is pretty good, I have no idea about conflicts though.

I doubt it, but if you check File Planet under categories such as "Tweaks" you may find something.

Because this is Bethsoft... and more unique dialogues would mean extra work, time, and cost.

I was in Bravil when someone named City-Swimmer was killed by the guards. When checking her body, I noticed that she had a stolen bread. I was amazed that this had happened. Then I started asking questions. Was this due a mod, or was this already in vanilla Oblivion? If this was a coincidence, is there a mod to make a more frequent. I mean, those beggars have to steal to survive, right?

If I recall correctly, I installed all three of those mods the last time I played Oblivion and didn't encounter any problems. I think that also includes some mod that removes the 'pea soup' effect (not sure if it's separate or in one of those three mods) and a grass tiling mod.
''They say truth is the first casualty of war. But who defines what's true? Truth is just a matter of perspective. The duty of every soldier is to protect the innocent, and sometimes that means preserving the lie of good and evil, that war isn't just natural selection played out on a grand scale. The only truth I found is that the world we live in is a giant tinderbox. All it takes...is someone to light the match" - Captain Price
