Oblivion Mod Using
Oblivion Mods. You've all used 'em, Except for me. Any tips on how to use them? Installing, Links, Mods in general, etc. Since my oblivion profile has gone to hell, I want to try some new things with it. So if you have any information about using mods, please tell me.

For XBox or PC?
If you are using XBox you can only download the official mods. If you are on PC, check out the link I recently posted in the Yellowpage sticky, it has some excellent information on finding and using mods.
Personally I tend to unzip the mods into a separate folder on my desktop, and then I copy and paste the contents (esp/esm, textures, meshes etc.) into my Oblivion Data folder, it works like a charm. I'd also recommend downloading a program that lets you load the mods in a certain order since that can really matter. Wrye Bash is good, and so is OMOD, I find the latter easier to use, but that's personal preference.
It's also a good idea to back up your *entire* Oblivion folder before messing about with mods.

To be honest, if you have the computer to run it I'd seriously suggest picking up the GOTY edition for PC... The player-made plug-ins are generally of a much higher calibre than Bethsoft's, and there are * a lot*.
They allow you to remove all the hand-holding, they improve models and textures, there are quite a few good quests, you can download companions, you can make huge improvements to gameplay etc. etc.
I always said I would never play a "vanilla Morrowind," but that sentiment holds even more true for Oblivion.

DW inadvertently linked to the PC download site, but it did have the necessary information:
ATTENTION XBOX 360 AND PLAYSTATION 3 OWNERS: The content/plug-ins available at obliviondownloads.com will only work with the PC version of Oblivion. We do not currently offer downloadable content for PLAYSTATION 3. Xbox 360 users should download these plug-ins from the Xbox Marketplace using their Xbox 360.
