I just started up playing ToB with the party i finished SoA with, and is kinda bothered if its useful to have my brother in the party aswell.. currently my party consists of
Me (Barb 19) dualwielding Blackrazor and Crom faeyr
Minsc (Ranger 17) wielding Silversword
Keldorn (inquistor 17) wielding Carmosyr +5
Cernd (shapeshifter 14) why? because he is an awesome warrior and he also provides spellcasting bane (insect plague) and backup healing
Imoen (Thief 7/Mage 17) Main mage of the party
Aerie (Cleric 14/Mage 13) Main healer and backup mage of the party
Its generally a good group (reputation 21) so I hear Cernd bickering from time to time, The only one i would consider replacing for Sarevok is Minsc, however I dont know quite how that would work out, Aerie being his witch and all.. Minsc is a sweet guy, even if his mental scores suck, has he any intresting dialogues for ToB or is Sarevok more intresting in that aspect?, aswell as who is the better warrior? will I have to listen to Sarevoks endless bickering about how goddamn heroic we are?
Also I have soul reaver lying around somewhere ^^
Sarevok worth it?

SPoiler:
you can change his character to chaotic good in TOB
Spoiler
Can you still convert him if you're evil yourself? dzidek1983 did say he's wielding Blackrazor, so therefore should be evil now even if he wasn't before.

Sarevok is a force of Nature in his own right. You´ll have a warrior proficient with one of the best weapon types in the whole game. Sarevok especially stands out, if you choose to dual class him. He´ll work equally fine as both a Mage or Thief. I prefer Thief, since he´ll have access to the Use All Items skill later on. Then you´ll be able to have him equip and use every item in the game, as you probably figured out. Boyscout items or other class items? No problem, he can use them all. Pretty handy, come to think about it.
Or you could also think about having him dual wield two weapons. That´s gonna take some points in dual wielding along with proficiencies in those weapons, so perhaps two handed swords is the easiest way to go. Your choice, really.
As a Mage he´ll be the perfect supporter for Imoen, Edwin or the Bhallspawn, if you rolled a Mage-type as the leading character. He´ll work great in tandem with them, or can simply throw up some buffs and rage forward. He´ll be forced to do without many items specific to other classes as a dualed Mage, though.
However, by dualing he´ll miss out on Fighter High level abilities. That´s both a pro and a con, but as a dual class he´ll still have access to the Deathbringer Assault, a skill exclusive for him. What this skill does is for you to decide if you want to know about:

And on another ontion: Yes, tell Minsc to bug off and hump his hamster in Hell. Get rid of the dumbass in Irenicus´ Dungeon. He´s decent. He´s even good. He even brings some comical relief to the game. But he´s nothing compared to Sarevok. He´s not worth the XP he´s leeching of the other 5 members in the party, until you get access to Sarevok.

This skill enables him to randomly do an extra 200 damage with melee attacks.

Not as much as you might think. You probably got a lot scrolls you can erase from your spellbooks and rewrite them. I always do, for some reason. You can choose to to through Watchers Keep as the first thing after Saradush. When you return to the storyline, you´ll be a good way towards having the old class back. How much XP is Demogorgon alone worth again? Besides, if you go through Shadows of Amn with a 5 person party, the other 5 will be somewhat more powerful, and be able to coddle Sarevok a bit, until he regains his Fighter class. Sure, as a Mage it might be a little more lenghty, but as a Thief it´s no problem.kmonster wrote:Yes, dualclassing works as you described.
Therefore if you dual Sarevok to thief most of ToB will be over when he gains his fighter abilities back and if you dual him to mage the game might be over before this happens.
But whether or not people want to dual class Sarevok is their own decision. I just figure that a Sarevok Fighter/Thief with a +6 Carsomyr pulls his weight twice as good as a straight-up Fighter with a +4 or +5 two handed sword in the final battle. That counts for something in my book.
