Managed to solve it, or work around it:

I installed 6.0 over 5.3. Knew my saves might show a few glitches, but was willing to try. I deleted the savegames I made after finishing the Hallowbrook quest, since they were still buggy. Went back and re-did the Hallowbrook quest, and afterwards things ...

I installed the official 1.2 patch and the unofficial 5.3 patch. Noticed they're up to 6.0 now.

I finished the Hell at Hotel Hallowbrook quest, and my quest log says I finished it and should go see Lacroix, but when I get to him, he doesn't respond at all, just repeats the 'kill them all before they bring doom upon us' line that he was spouting before I left to do the quest.

Is there any way ...
