I tried sleeping in the Mages guild, Caius' house and out in the open. And nothing.
Installing Bloodmoon and the patch worked! Sort of. I got the snowflake error - I think it's caused by using Windows 7 - but my better half found a fix for it. The link to the instructions he found is here:

I've got a lvl 31 mage-type character, and I've got a 99 alignment to good. But my companions (Sogg, Jormund, Virgil and Dog) are becoming increasingly ill-willed towards me.
