Repeater Crossbow
Well yes...
The crossbow takes the time to reload...
but fear not...¬_¬
(Spoiler)
On the Third level you will find Wonnilon´s Repeater Crossbow + 1....quite useful for a wizard...(and thus making reloading more easily)....
While you remain correct...by that time your wizard ...

Monster NPC
Well yes...
Those two are excellent NPC
My NE party...with a rouge, cleric / fighter, druid, fighter and wizard, excels with these two additions...
To old Scorpp I let him have a Banded Mail + 1 and a Large Steel Shield + 2, now he is lvl 10 and can get boosted up to 41 in AC (not ...

Mage Weapons
AFAIK Wizards can ONLY USE dagger, quarterstaff, Light CrossBow, HeavyCrossBow (according to AD&D)
No Sling, no Javalin, no shortsword no nothing else....(no even armor or shields)
Those are the rules...sorry....
But it´s just fine...it´s better to have a Heavy CrossBow...really ...

According to Rules
Well
I tried with my Cleric/Fighter and he won quite easily....
But here might be some considerations...
1.- According to AD&D rules, getting drunk with ale, beer or wine deals subdual damage, thus won´t kill you, yet leaving you uncounscious.
2.- As you may see while taking ...
