The Quest Reviews

Although it's already been available for PC and mobile platforms for a couple of years, I only recently stumbled upon Redshift's The Quest because of its release on the iPhone. It's an ambitious fifty-hour RPG in the same vein as the original Might and Magic and Eye of the Beholder titles, so it might be worth a closer look if you're looking for something new to play. Anyway, here are a few recent iPhone reviews...

The Portable Gamer gives it a "Buy It" verdict:
If you really liked old school RPGs, like Ultima and Might & Magic, you will DIG this game. It's exactly like those, down to graphics and soundtrack. I, personally, never played those, being stuck in a computer-less cave called my the poverty of college at the time these were released. Let's just say that I do not have an acquired taste for the graphical style and control scheme they seem to all use. Nor the overly florid lettering, or melodramatic plots. This game has ALL of these things, and, as such, is a pretty quality homage to the RPGs of yore.

The review at The APPera has no score:
The game is near perfect and includes the basic elements of a great RPG game (and then some). Our only problem is the way the character moves in 90 degree angles. Also, a control implementation similar to the iDracula, another Chillingo publication, will be great. at least the way you move your character around.

Other than that, The Quest more than delivers what it promises. In a world polluted with crisp smooth 3D graphics where the gameplays are mostly crap anyway, it's great to find solace in a game with not so advanced graphics yet manages to be extremely fun, entertaining and well suited for the platform it's on.

And Touch My Apps apparently likes it, as they give it a "Kiss It" rating:
From my very first glimpse at screenshots, I was impressed by The Quest. However, after playing Redshift's masterpiece, I am addicted and regret only the time I have spent away from the world of Freymore to finish this review. The Quest has everything: a great character development engine, detailed role-playing choices and interactions, a huge map full of harvestable fauna, a turn-based engine that allows for deep gameplay and great text and storyline. Redshift's port to the iPhone has only one hurdle to jump: movement bugs. When those can be addressed, mark my words - The Quest is destined to gloriously ascend to the ranks of my all-time favourite RPG's. The Quest is pure bliss.
