Amazon Launches Game Store, Cheap Indies!

Amazon launched a new digital download service to little fanfare this morning, and despite the fact that there is no RPG category, you can find a couple of role-playing games hidden in the strategy section. For example, after a quick browsing I discovered Winter Wolves' Magic Stones for $6.99, Soldak's Kivi's Underworld for $9.99, and Basilisk Games' Eschalon: Book I for $9.99.

What's really surprising is that the above prices are at a discount of 50% or more when compared to what the games are currently available for on Basilisk's, Soldak's, and Winter Wolves' own websites. Quite a deal.

UPDATE: It seems that the lower prices come with one caveat. According to Basilisk's Thomas Riegsecker, the downloadable copy of Eschalon: Book I on Amazon is version 1.04 and, due to Amazon's DRM, the game can never be updated to version 1.05 (or later). One would assume a similar issue affects all of the games available on the new digital download service, though it's too early to know for sure.
