Sacred 2: Fallen Angel Console Impressions

IGN shares their impressions of the upcoming console port of Sacred 2: Fallen Angel, after spending some time with a preview build of the Xbox 360 version. In case you missed the last press release, the sequel is currently scheduled to hit console systems on March 24th:
Sacred 2 isn't your run-of-the mill high fantasy RPG. Sure there are your traditional elements like castles and mages. But Ascaron has thrown in an ample amount of science fiction as well, making the game world a bit surprising at times. Part of Sacred 2's main storyline involves T-Energy (hopefully unrelated to the Resident Evil universe's T-Virus), which courses throughout the land and provides juice for magic spells and the like.

So in addition to medieval farmhouses and wagons, you'll also see the occasional glowing blue pipe full of T-Energy coursing by. At one point in my travels, my Elf Girl was riding astride a dragon shooting gnomes with a laser pistol. Lord of the Rings, this is not. Then again, the weapon names are some of the most hilariously over-the-top we've seen on the 360 to date. I'm currently rocking the Cudgel of the Erudite, a Raider's Falchion of Torment and Warhorse's Sabatons of the Ferrous. Yeah, I'm kind of a big deal.

One of the cool things about Sacred 2 is that it supports both local and online four-player co-operative play, so you can load up your saved character, invite a friend to do the same and go traipsing around Ancaria jacking fools and getting paid. IGN Xbox editor Erik Brudvig and I took our characters on the road for a spell and found that the two-player local co-op works well overall, although there are still some issues with menu commands and inventory management, and these are brought into sharper relief when there are two players on the screen.
