Puzzle Quest: Challenge of the Warlords Review

GameSpy has reviewed the Wii port of Puzzle Quest and decided that despite a somewhat awkward control scheme it's still an addictive game. They give it a 3.5/5.
The Wii version of Puzzle Quest is hindered by the weakest visuals of any version available. Without a widescreen option, you're left with a play area that is far more cramped than the Xbox Live version. The Wii controls are also the most frustrating, in particular the Wii remote "pointer" controls. Trying to make quick gem-swaps with a shaky pointer is a headache waiting to happen. The remote and nunchuk option offers finer control, but then you have to deal with an awkward layout of buttons mapped to the different menu options. Why not include the basic NES pad-styled control scheme to keep things simple? Also bear in mind that there's no online support in the Wii version.

If all the different Puzzle Quest releases were playing a certain reality show, the Wii version would be the first to get voted off the island. The Xbox Live version and even the PSP version with its annoying bugs are better-looking versions of the same game. That said, the game is still great fun on Wii. Regardless of which version of Puzzle Quest you prefer, make sure to buy this game and recommend it to your friends.
