Activision/Blizzard Merger Q&A

Another Q&A about the Vivendi and Activision merger pops up on Mercury News. It's kind of a weird interview...
Q: Maybe the 11 years in between Starcraft and Starcraft 2. I would guess most companies aren't willing to go that long before coming up with a quality sequel.

A: We weren't working on Starcraft 2 the whole time. What you point out is important. We were working on other things. We try to focus on other things. We try not to do every possible opportunity at once. We try to pick opportunities and try to execute on them well.

Q: Other companies would have gotten the sequel out the next year.

A: Yep.

Q: You guys are willing to go through years of iteration to get things right.

A: If you look at a game like World of Warcraft, it was in development for about five years.

Q: I was very interested in seeing the numbers. How much did you share the numbers? It's $1.1 billion in revenue and $520 million in operating profit. That sounds like a pretty good year.

A: It's a great year.
