The guys at Photics.com have published a lengthy Q&A with ArenaNet's Gaile Gray, in which the community relations manager answers questions about the upcoming expansion, breaking into the game industry, and a whole lot more. Here's a taste:

Q: The first Guild Wars expansion will be released later this year. What can players expect from that update?

A: You can expect a whole lot of new content and new gameplay options. The missions will have a difference in terms of replayability; the way that the game unfolds and the options that you will have as players will differ from the first installment. There will be new regions for you to explore and new cultures to learn about. You'll have new characters to create and new professions to perfect in combinations of unprecedented numbers. All that and new skills, new monsters, new quests, new missions, new weapons, new items. as you can see, there's a whole lot of (newness) going on!
