Obsidian Entertainment Office Visit, Part Three

The Neverwinter Vault is offering up the final installment to their report of a recent visit they paid to Obsidian Entertainment's studio in Orange County, this time releasing a Q&A with community manager Shane DeFreest. An excerpt to follow:
Q: Can you talk about some of your plans for the NWN2 community and when will you be starting to carry them out?

A: Our plans are closely guarded secret. I could tell you but then I'd have to kill you. Ok, well not so much. Actually what we plan on doing up until launch is having a monthly theme that will have a number of different parts to it. Our goal is to get all the various community sites participating in one element of that theme. So for example our first month is "The Protagonist" or you the hero. We have a number of different topics and activities under that umbrella that we will be working with a number of the fan sites in the community to flesh out in detail. Each month will have a different theme and with the different theme comes different information about the game to the community. Additionally. Very soon we'll be sending out weekly updates. I'm a big fan of getting some amount of new info out to the community every week and as much as possible.

One of the fun things we're going to start doing is what we're calling "monster of the week' is where we post a new screen and some descriptive text about a NWN2 monster and then we solicit the community to send us in either their funny stories involving said creature or a description of how they have best used that monster in building a NWN module. We will then go through all the submissions regarding that monster and post the one we like the most next to it on the official website next to the creature. And the fan that sends in the one who gets chosen will get something cool from us. We're still working exactly on what types of prizes but we're thinking of stuff like signed concept art prints or something else you could only get directly from OE. So in the spirit of good fun I'll even give your reader a heads up to get their creative juices flowing. One of the first monsters we're going to release is the classic Zombie. Fans can send in their interesting stories or module builders can send in their creative uses of zombies to This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.. Submissions should be no more than two decent paragraphs or at most half a page. So I guess the answer to when we're going to start doing stuff would be.right now! :)
