EverQuest II Q&A

OGaming has published another EverQuest II Q&A, this time talking with actor Christopher Lee about his role as the voice of Lucan D'Lere in Sony Online's MMORPG. An excerpt to follow:
Q: Granted, the answer may affect your paycheck at the end of the day, but honestly. Do you really think it's a good idea for MMO titles, as is the case with many single-player titles, to start incorporating Hollywood talent?

A: That depends. It's really a matter of casting. Having a famous name alone isn't everything. You have got to have the right vocal power or vocal energy or vocal subtlety in place for whichever part you're casting. Whether it's bad, good, funny, or serious I don't think it's a question, necessarily, of just picking a movie star per se and saying, (Great they're famous.) That is not, necessarily, going to work.

Don't forget in the cinema they have the very advantage of, well. like we have in games, of a story and a script and the words. But they also have the advantage of all the technicians and the director.

Games are a very different matter. Many times game makers just pick a star that can help sell the game. Not that I'm opposed to that. If it's going to help the marketing of the game, and the star can play the part, fine. why not? But they have to play the part properly for the collaboration to have any meaning to an audience.
