Comics & Video Games, Part One

Yahoo Games Domain has begun a new feature that explores the relationship between comic books and video games, referencing titles like Freedom Force and City of Heroes. An excerpt to follow:
Similarly unbound by an original comic book source, the likes of City of Heroes and Freedom Force have deemed to add a little more depth to comic book related games by bringing the online and role-playing elements stronger to the fore, while more open ended action titles like Spider-Man 2 give us more freedom in the sandbox, letting gamers decide which way they want their villains served.

Not to say the platform games and beat 'em ups of yore have been unwanted -- but story and some degree of franchise authenticity are becoming more important in the quest for the ultimate comic book game. Your big aunty Flo may look like she's as strong as the Hulk, given by his rather muted power levels in the games, but we're sure she can't lift a tank above her head in a gamma radiation assisted rage. Well, we hope. Otherwise we fear for your Christmas celebrations.
