In the end, City of Heroes is a mighty fine MMORPG. It eliminates many of the problems seen in previous MMORPGs, making it a highly recommended game for its genre. The slow character growth at later levels is necessary in these types of games in order for it to continue to provide something new for its heavy players. This slowdown in character progression results in a feeling of repetitiveness as combats eventually begin to seem the same once your character begins to come into its own. This usually takes about 10 to 20 hours of playing. Contrary to many MMORPGs, the many superhero types and power choices available help to make the game fun at the lower levels. The game could well be worth its price if bought and played for a month or two with an attitude towards enjoying exploring the abilities of two or three different superheroes. With an eye towards that type of player, I give the game 3½ stars. For fans of the MMORPG genre, I would easily add another star.
