PvP (which is turned off until level 30) is consensual, meaning you must challenge a player to a DM which they have to accept (think /duel in EverQuest), and are then taken to a mirror image of the world where you fight your battle. That is, of course, unless you are in a PvP - free zone, or in a zone specifically designed for PvP (there are "safe" zones as well).
