Auras of Anarchy

If the game Interstate '76 had been an MMORPG it might have looked like this shot from Anarchy Online, one of three new pixel captures at the gaming mega-site PC.ign.

In other AO news, Gibme.com produced a short but sweet (though you're not likely to glean any new info from it) interview with Funcom, or rather, someone from Funcom, which includes some screenage. Here's a trickle:

Q: It is said that Anarchy Online will be a futuristic Role Playing Game, but is it based on any existing paper based RPG, and if so, which game or have you made a new set of rules?

A: We have used rules like the ones in Rolemaster, AD&D, Rift and Shadowrun for reference, but the rules in AO are made by Funcom. The problem with paper based RPGs, is that they are made just for paper and to easily be able to calculate solutions speedily while playing. When the rules are translated to PC, they will seem quite advanced since we can calculate several millions of transactions each second. But after saying that, it is not like we try to make the rules complicated, we just open up for more possibilities.
