Dragon's Dogma Reviews

We have rounded up a few more reviews for Capcom's open-world console action-RPG Dragon's Dogma, which so far lean on the positive side of the spectrum as far as reception is concerned.

GameMatics, 8.0/10.
All in all Dragon's Dogma is a well put together RPG that is heavy on action and lets you play the game how you see fit. Along with this, the airtight combat, and the deep Pawn feature you can truly leave your mark on the world of Gransys. But I fear that the hardcore RPG crowd will feel the game relies too much on its action and not enough on its story telling. Another area that is sorely lacking is the ability to play co-op with friends. While the ability to hire a friends Pawn is a nice touch I can't help but think how much better the game would have been if you could party up with 3 friends and explore the world of Gransys together. While the lack of co-op is disappointing it certainly isn't deal breaker and the game should offer enough to please both action fans and RPG fans alike. This is a very solid debut effort from Capcom and a fine start to a franchise that could have a very bright future.

GameInformer, 8.50/10.
Dragon's Dogma is an unconventional game for Capcom, and action/RPGs in general. Combat feels like a necessary part of the game's design, rather than something that was begrudgingly added to provide interaction between cutscenes. I left the game feeling that I made my mark on Gransys the way I chose to, instead of being escorted from plot point to plot point. When you're talking about an open-world game, I can't think of higher praise.

Official PlayStation Magazine UK, 8/10.
If you were in a bad mood, you could hang Dragon's Dogma out to dry for its clumsy camera and controls, simplistic warrior-rogue-mage class choice, shallow combat and bad dialogue (which frequently misuses the words ere, e'er, aught, ought, ill, and so on.) But it's hard to be in a bad mood while playing such a brave, sprawling, original take on role-playing. Accept its failings and you get to enjoy its beautifully esoteric successes

Don't think of Skyrim or Dark Souls while playing Dragon's Dogma; just take this unique experience and enjoy it for what it is. For all the small faults that tamper with its formula, it remains an engaging and rewarding experience, and cements itself as a game worth playing. Capcom made a lot of promises for this game, and people have set their own high expectations. Well, I'm here to tell you Dragon's Dogma lives up to them in the most important way: engrossing fun.

Thanks Lilly.
