Metacritic has released its yearly video game rankings, with Mass Effect 2 coming in second at 95 to Super Mario Galaxy 2 at 97. It does come in as the best multi-platform game, however. New this year is the Publisher Rankings, with Take Two taking the lead and EA and Activision Blizzard coming in 5th and 6th. Mass Effect 2 and DeathSpank make appearances as EA's most highly rated titles, while Mass Effect 2: Lair of the Shadow Broker has the highest user rating. Fable III: Understone Quest Pack makes an appearance as Microsoft's lowest rated release.

I'm not a big fan of Metacritic as their methodology is completely opaque but the game industry in general values it highly, and if nothing else it's fun to see how inflated game scores are getting.
