Best Fighting style

Post by brian0182001 »

I've been playing BGII for a little while now, so I want to ask everyone. Which of the four styles is the best, and why do you think so?

Personally, I like the two-handed weapon skill because of the enhanced speed and critical hit numbers.

What do you think?

It depends on the weapon you use,
there are very very powerfull 2handed weapons that can beat any combination of dual-wielding that dousn't include CF.

Dualwielding with CF is the best fighting style.

But i like tohandead weapons better from a rollplaying perspective,

i just can imagine a fighter dualwielding a warhammer and flail or something.
2 swords ok, but no blunt weapons.
I do not have the touch, nor do I have the power.

The best weapon for me is the ol time fav LONGBOW

( he what u expect, I'm an ARcheR :) )

Runner up would be dualwielding Blackrazor and the Equalizer :)

Combat gets ridiculously easy when everyone has ranged weapons. Ridiculously. Generally speaking, mages are among the hardest enemies to kill, but if you have everyone fire at him right off the bat, rarely does he manage to raise his first defensive spell.

Except when you're off against creatures that are immune to missiles. And decent mages usually have that sort of protection through triggers.

Dual-wielding two daggers might be interesting, a dagger is fast and some of them have nice effects. I prefer dual daggers...

I dont quite agree that all NPC's with Ranged weapons are so good. How are u planning to pierce a stoneskin or protection from magical/normal weapons? Cause mages (or Dragons, etc) can get those spells up.

I think a well balanced party is better.
Including a Fighter, Cleric, Mage and maybe a Thief.

Personally I like to give NPC's all different sorts of weapons. So that my NPC's got a Bow ( preferably me :) ) Longsword, Katana, Scimitar, Quaterstaff and a sling.

Well I personally think that combat gets easy if you have two or three capable melee fighters backed up by a priest and a mage. With all those strength boosting items in BG2 melee fighters do far more damage and besides that, there are +4, +5 and +6 (at least in ToB) melee weapons. I wonder how Kangaxx can be killed with ranged weapons?

Well actually I have this party:

Me (allways Archer)
Minsc
Jaheira
Anomen
Tashia
Imoen/Nalia

And only minsc and anomen are the real fighters. More often then not i actually dont make it to ToB.......cause then i want a new party and new weapons (this time ill get an imported item (a bow), real cool one).
Also Kangaxx......I faced him ones with my Archer but i cant remember that I was able to hit him.

I suppose I was unclear. Everyone DOES have ranged weapons, but not exclusively. IF I can't drop the aforementioned magi right off the bat, then yes, whacky-whacky with the melee, or piercing magicks. I was speaking generally. My first run-through was GENERALLY melee focused, but now with the emphasis on ranged weapons, it's a lot easier.

The first time I killed Kangaxx I had my two fighters up close and Mazzy firing the Bow of Gesan from the back. Admittedly, I needed the heavy damage inflicted by my tanks, but it was a shot from Mazzy that actually ended up being the killing blow.

i designed a dagger that gives you two points in dual wield so a thief could benefit from it(IIRC it was for fighters and f/t only. could be wrong, it can be found from sabre's web site, link is in the BG crossroads)

it's nice to see some more finnish people here... :D :D ;)

I prefer Dualwielding with my Fighter. That way, you can combine a lot of nice side-effects the weapons grant you (Negative Plane Protection, Mind Shield, Slow, Stun,...). Usually, I end up putting Crom Faer in my off hand and switching between the other weapons as needed (e.g. Flail of the Ages for trolls and Mace of Disruption for Vampires)

For my own archer, I had him put two points into single-weapon style, so that he could switch between a longsword and his longbow as need.

And IMO every character should have a melee and a ranged weapon in their quick weapon slots, unless they're dual-wielding.

I would have to disagree with that.
Unlike BG1 fighters are way more effective with melee attacks, then ranged attacks.
I do not have the touch, nor do I have the power.
