Game freezes at character creation

Morrowind freezes after I give my name in the character creation screens.

I have resolved the sound issues and have made sure graphics has been set up properly, as per a few posts on this forum.

I am running PIII 933 mhz, win Me, 128 ram, Radeon VE 32 meg,

I have turned off all applications in the background, but the game still freezes up during character creation.

Any other advice to try. I would ask at Bestsoft.com, but I have been unable to access the Elderscroll site for the past few days.

You have probably already done this

- but make sure that you have the latest drivers for your video card loaded. I had a similar problem with my Geforce 2 - loaded the newest drivers and I have been playing for 2 days with no problems.

Are you sure it isn't just a clipping problem? Probably not, but I had a major AI bug the first 3 times I started a character. I would give my name to the ugly green dude, then just stand around waiting forever for something to happen (couldn't move either)..
After restarting a couple times I look over to the stairs in the background. The Guard that is supposed to get you sometimes get stuck on the large mast/pole on his way over. The fourth time he walked all the way though..the dumbass!
