Soundblaster tech support... Help!

I have a Soundblaster Live 5.1... I was trying to play an old "King's Quest" game, but in the setup it kept telling me it could detect no soundblaster card, even though the live card comes with soundblaster 16 emulation... Does anybody have any suggestions on how to fix it? I have already tried checking the address of the card.

I'm going to move this over to the Tech Support category, where (hopefully) somebody can help you.

How old a version of King's Quest do you have? Is it for DOS or Windows? If it is for DOS, the setup may not detect the Soundblaster16 emulator because the emulator drivers are for Windows, while the hardware shows a Soundblaster 5.1 card.

First of all, thanks Fable! Didn't see that category... Also, it would be King's Quest 5, which is for windows. I think the problem may be with the sb16 emulation, which probably isn't of the best quality. Maybe I'll just buy a 486, it can't be more then 75 dollars for a system of that age...

Can you set the confiquration manually?
Check the IRQ and DMA of the Sound Blaster 16 emulation and try to force those two in the setup program.
Also, KQ5 is a midi game, do you have midi enabled?
That's all I can think about right now ...

I do have midi on, but I haven't tried stuffing the addresses down setup's throat yet. Maybe that will work...

Back to the topic; what OS are you running (95/98/ME/2k/XP)?

98, but it's moot point now. It's strange but yesterday I popped in the kq5 cd just for kicks, and it worked! I suppose I must have done SOMEthing, but I have no clue as to what it was.

As to Mr. Moleman person, that would classicaly be the New York subway system, on a track 2 miles south of Grand Central Station.

Oh yes. The mental trauma forbade me from eating or drinking anything brown for weeks! Yes I know, that's rather gross...
