There's no real easy answer on how to play, as D&D is an extremely complex game with thousands of variables and functions.

I'll second that. Read the content in the link provided above. If you are capable of grasping that, whatever questions you have should be narrowed down significantly. If you cannot grasp that, go back to fiddling with NWN. The game is complex, building a character can take hours, depending on the level you start at. Playing the game requires concentration, creativity, ingenuity, strategy, and remembering the rules of hundreds of pages of information.
