The gender/race of god

I was sitting here flipping through the channels when I stumbled by a show called "Touched by an Angel." The characters were having a discussion about god and they always referred to god as a he. It seems that god is always portrayed as a white male. For some reason this really pisses me off. Nobody knows for certain if there even is a god let alone its gender and race. Perhaps EMINEM would like to enlighten us on this subject, if not I'm sure somebody else will.

Even though I'm Atheist (Who here doesn't know that?

) If I believed in him, I'd picture him a big, burly black guy with a sense of humour, and self-loathing.

I always thought he might look like a cross between John Godman and Shaquile O'neal.

And Satan looked like a giant red ball, with Saddam Huessan stuck out his posterior?

(Note that this is from a philosophical perspective, not a religious one, as I personally don't believe in god)
god is not human, or an animal as we know them. So why would god have to have a gender? Why does god have to exist in a human-type form?
Presumably god wouldn't have to obey any earthly laws either, so therefore doesn't have to have a gender.

Again, philisophical, God is Omnipotent. Thus, has neither gender, race or pinball machine. Although, God is probably quite found of the Woodbines...

Maybe god has to look like a human because he/she/it created man in his/her/its own image? I read that somewhere in the bible. But then again he supposedly is all powerful so he/she/it could look like anything he/she/it wants. Anyways I am also an athiest and maybe God doesn't have any distinguishing "organs" because he/she/it does not need to reproduce.

If I was god I would become a shower tile. Think of all the interesting things you would see.

One reason that many people believe that God looks human is because it serves to boost human arrogance towards all other things. Also as a religous ploy to their religon more believable. Since humans always assume that we are superior why would we worship an "inferior" object such as an animal.

This is how I look at it:
1. Jesus = Male (Matthew 1:1)
2. Jesus = God (John 1:1)
3 Therefore, God = Male
also,
1. Jesus called God "Father" (John 17)
2. Father = Male (Webster's)
3. Therefore, God = Male
From the Biblical POV, it is impossible to see God as being female.

LOL

I agree, though, that since god is supposed to be an omnipotent, eternal, infinite and transcendent being, it(?) has no material or physical attributes like gender or skin colour.
And I don't think I need to add that I'm a non believer in gods
Now, where's Eminem when you need him?
EDIT: What a coincidence!
Just as I posted this, MM showed up!
Hi MM, sorry I have to rush, a friend's picking me up for dinner
I'm preparing a post about how life on earth began and on molecular genetics, I hope to finish it this evening when I come home.

Well i call myself god, and i'm male, i guess the god is a he.
Well god can look like anything you want him/her too. Since he/she doesn't exist.

Eminem writes:
1. Jesus called God "Father" (John 17)
2. Father = Male (Webster's)
3. Therefore, God = Male
I always understood that the Aramaic word translated as "father" (please excuse me; I don't have it handy at the moment) actually refered to "generative principle" rather than a different word which would be "father." Yes, I know the two are sometimes considered synonomous among humans, but that issue aside, I'm wondering if, when we're discussing a discorporate, universal being, equating this principle to "male" isn't extremely limiting. @Eminem, you have considerable experience in reading and interpreting the bible. What *is* the word used for father, taking into account cultural context?
Can a discorporate universal being that informs everything be said to have genitals? And no, I'm not being facetious. Who are we to put limitations on something which is beyond imagination?

Got a little carried away with the backspace key. You don't want to know what I said anyway, it was very demeaning to our friend Eminem.
