Ms T watched with interest as the sheriff caught up to DP. Laughing to herself, she thought we'll see if he tells her the truth.

Darkpoet swung on his heel, came right at Loner. Which surprised her, and he took her gun away.

"Yes that was my job, I hunted criminals for the army. I would chase them down in the little towns after they shot the place to pieces. Just in time to see the sheriff, bleed to death in the middle of the street. Or see some poor child crying, standing next to his dead mother. Yes, sheriff that was my job."

Loner was stunned speechless. After all these years of hunting down Cheech...and she believed him. She was accustomed to reading the truth in people's eyes, and she saw it now, in the last place on earth she ever expected to find it.

She began very quietly. "Then, sir, you understand why I have to do my own job. This isn't about taking your fight away. I have to keep order here. If these people see you running into the street with guns blazing, and the sheriff cowering indoors, God only knows what will heppen here. I've worked hard to restore order in this town, I'm not about to see it disappear now. Surely you can understand that."

"So," she went on. "We don't have much time. What do you propose we do here?"

Darkpoet calmed down a little, he still had to figure someting out. He saw Ms. T out of the corner of his eye. Handing Loner, back her gun.

"Sheriff, I have one question for you. If you get shot, what will Kramor do? You see why I want to do this alone. I'm going to meet them, before they get into town."

Ms T poked her head out the window to look towards the edge of town. She saw a faint stirring of dust on the horizon. Grinning at DP, she pointed towards the edge of town and held up her rifle. As soon as he turned his head she blew him a kiss. "Good luck.", she whispered.

How the hell did he know about Kramor?...

Loner nodded. "All right," she said. "I'll stay here, and clear the streets. Try not to get yourself killed."

When he was gone, Loner fired her rifle into the air, five shots. That was the signal for everyone to get indoors and under safe cover. Then she found a rider, and had him take a message to Blue at the ranch.

Blue, it read. Bisbee Pete and Clem are on their way into town. You remember them, I'm sure. I need you or Tsai to do some stealthy patrolling. You may meet Cheech. He is not who we thought he was. If you find him, stay out of sight, but help if he needs it. Do not tell Kramor what's going on. I don't want him getting killed. Loner.

Darkpoet tiped his hat to Ms.T, then went into his store. Making sure he had enough ammo, he grabbed his double barrel shot gun. Darkpoet headed to the outskirts of town. He watched the dust coming closer, he counted seven. Watching two split to the right and two to the left. He signaled to Ms.T, and she motioned to Loner.

Darkpoet stood and waited, thinking of how many times he had done this. That one day, he won't walk away. Drying his hands on his levis, he put on leather gloves.

As they road up Bisbee Pete couldn't believe his eyes.
"Clem looky there, that dumb B@stard standing there waiting for us."
The three stopped twenty yards from Darkpoet.

"You shot our two cousins in Waco, last year. We aim to collect on your hide, so I hope your fast."

Darkpoet didn't even give them the chance, he let Clem have it with both barrels. Tossing him off his horse twenty feet. Dropping the shot gun, Darkpoet dove to the left, shooting Pete twice in the chest. Darkpoet to a bullet in the leg, he them put a bullet in Wally's head. He could hear the shooting inside the town. Darkpoet hoped that T, and Loner where ok. He starting running towards town.

Loner stood in the middle of the empty street, rifle poised. Every shade in town was drawn. She kept turning, casting her vision all round...and that was when she saw Ms. T in the hotel window, holding a shotgun. Ms. T smiled and waved. Loner spread her arms, as if to say What the hell?!...

She heard shots just on the edge of town. Lots of them. There must be more than three, she thought, puzzled -- and that was when the first shot rang out.

Loner whirled in the direction of the sound, rifle poised. She saw nothing. Then another shot rang out, and Loner took a bullet in the shoulder. She was thrown, and thinking he had the drop on her, a gunman stepped out from the corner of the bank, ready to fire his two pistols again. But Loner recovered and from the ground shot a hole through his chest.

How many were there?...Loner scrambled to her feet and ran for cover at the corner of the saloon. A bullet whizzed past her head, barely missing. She peeked out, saw a figure moving stealthily between buildings, and fired. The figure fell.

Ms T carefully moved back into position. Calmly she waited for DP's signal. *Just like old times she thought. Well maybe not.* She heard gunfire from the edge of town. Looking quickly she saw two of the varmints heading in on Dps right. Taking aim at one of the outlaws, Ms T fired. The rifle roared and the outlaw fell, gaping in surprise at the hole in his chest. The room was filled with the smell of gunpowder. Ms T moved quickly to the other side of the window. Raising the rifle again she peered out at the street. She fired quickly, but missed the mans chest, hitting in him in the leg. Cursing in a most unladylike fashion she aimed again. Then had to duck as Wild Dog Will figured out where the shots were coming from. Letting go another shot, she didn't miss. Wild Dog fell back clutching his belly. Ms. T looked around but didn't see any more movement. Making sure her colt was ready for a quick draw, she headed for the stairs.

When the rider came galloping his horse and gave the note to Blue. Blue and Tsai, were gone in a flash. Kramor, was right behind them, as he got closer he heard the shooting.

"Loner what have you gotten yourself into." Kramor mumbled.

A bullet hit the old man in the chest.With a hand clutching his chest and another waving in the air,he cursed and sweared at both parties involved in the gunfight."You....can't....do....this...to me......scumbags......"his voice trailed off as he awaits certain death

"Aw, hell," Loner mumbled, as she pulled a flask from her duster pocket and took a long drink. She tried to ignore the pain in her shoulder. Ms. T had been firing, but Loner hadn't seen what went on...

Were there any more of them?...She stayed in the shelter of the corner, exchanging her rifle for the less cumbersome revolver.

Ms T checked both sides of the hall. Seeing the coast was clear, she moved quickly to the stairs. Looking through the railing to make sure there was no one waiting for her, she moved to the door.

Darkpoet came running down the street, seeing someone come out of the hotel. He turned, T and Darkpoet, held guns on each other. Darkpoet grinned, the grin didn't last long. Loner's shirt was red with blood.

Seeing Darkpoet and T, Loner stepped out into the street. Seeing the look on Darkpoet's face, she shook her head and took another drink. "I'm fine, really," she said. "I just need to get to a doctor..."

Kramor came riding in, seeing Dp standing with a gun in his hand and Loner on the gound bleeding. He was off his horse running, gun drawn.

"Dp, what the hell are you doing? I should gut shoot you right now."

She took another drink to quell the pain...

The old man could feel the air being sucked out of him.The world started to blur around him as he took his last breath on Earth.He closed his eyes as the feeling of pain faded away

Loner started to fall, Kramor caught her. He checked out her wound, his face was pale.

"Kramor, I told her to stay out of it. But, she wouldn't, these guys were gunning for me."
