@Georgi-Yes, now you're stuck with Holly Valance too, and she's just released her first single (which IIRC reached no. 1 in the UK charts) MUAHAHAHA!
Frogus is in love right now, so no homicide for your viewing pleasure, I'm afraid.
Good luck with killing Craig David (the explosives are in the mail
).
@Tamerlane-Hmm, suddenly I'm all in favor of mandatory detention for immigrants...

Yeah - I thought that Idioteque was probably from South Park, as well as I Might Be Wrong and possibly Dollars and Cents or Everything In It's Right Place. But it's all just guessing really...Originally posted by frogus
Yeah...kids, that South Park show was a wicked gig...it was their homecoming to Oxford after about 6 (?) years away...and yeah, Thom was freakin terrified. 'Just our first gig in our home town this millenium....no pressure' if I remember his words correctly. He's got a wierd act going, but IMHO pogoing or making jokes with the crowd would ruin the feel of the music... @Kam, I'm pretty sure that it has never been documented which tracks on IMBW are from where - I've looked. I'm pretty certain that Ideoteque's from Oxford, but apart from that I don't know...
Ummm...are you sure you're not talking about some other song? The main lyric in "Bishop's Robes" is 'bastard headmaster' repeated over and over again, which is rather apt as he was, and he had no time at all for music or drama. He's just left at the end of last year though, I never thought I'd be happy to see him go but his replacement...Originally posted by frogus
BTW @ Kam, do you know which teacher it is that he wrote 'Bishop's Robes' about? (you do go to Abingdon, right?) - hint - it's a creepy Latin teacher, I don't know if he's still there, but I do know that he was three years ago...
As for the Latin teacher, whatever song refers to him(/her?), and I can't think of one off the top of my head so it must be a b-side, after careful reference to my intimate knowledge of the Classics department
No, I was about three people back from the fence by the end, but tell you the truth I really wouldn't have wanted to be sitting down for that...Originally posted by frogus
also, were you in the stand at the front? That little exclusive pig pen for the first 2000 guests, plus celebrities? I didn't get in...

Oh, yes he was awful...almost as bad as Sigur Ros in fact, except for when it started raining, and he pulled out a harmonica and started improvising. I thought that things would look up from there, but then he went back to the droning. Shame reallyOriginally posted by frogus
P.S. wasn't Beck ****?
My god, that was long. Sorry guys, especially for hijacking this thread in such a wonderful way
Oh, and Georgi, you'd better go buy some more Radiohead albums, or you'll be sorry

Hello All:
I am getting tired with my music collection. I am looking at recommendations for some fresh music that I can listen to. I am interested in punk/rock, rap, and generally all politically-oriented music. I know SYM is made up of diverse people with diverse musical tastes, so I thought it would be a good idea to ask people here for ideas. Thanks.![]()

Kam's right, you can never have too many Radiohead albums.
Which ones do you have, @Georgi? They're hard to get over here, so I don't have many.

What even Pablo Honey? With the worst song Radiohead have ever done (ergo track 3 from Pablo Honey) on it. Okay maybe not as bad as pop is deadOriginally posted by Ode to a Grasshopper

Let's not go there, OK?Track 3 - How Do You? isn't it - is a song that you don't really notice, coming as it does straight after the glory that is Creep. Neither are their crowning glory, however

I already have Rage Against The Machine, and I love their music. About classical music, I am not really that big of a fan, but don't have anything against it either. I also prefer music with words, not just instrumental. I haven't really heard anything before the 80's, so I guess I could check out some older music. Here's some of the things I already have:
1)NoFX
2)Rage Against The Machine
3)Lagwagon
4)Bad Religion
5)Ten Foot Pole
6)Green Day
7)Barenaked Ladies
8)Dido
9)System Of A Down
10)Nirvana
11)Coldplay
12)Saves The Day
13)Tool
14)Radiohead
15)Eminem
16)Dr. Dre
17)2Pac
18)Metallica
19)Chemical Brothers
As you can see, these music are fairly recent, but I see no really outstanding music in the present that are in the same genre that I prefer. @Fable: Ewan MacColl sounds very intriguing. I'll look him up on the net.
BTW, this discussion is very helpful to me, so thanks for the suggestions and please keep them coming.![]()

Theres a british band from the 91 called Senser, fairly small time but you should be able to get songs of any decent file server (audioGnome is my choice) they only ever did one album, called stacked up.. And it abolutly killed everything ive ever heard,
Very heavy, with decks and some of the best rifs youl ever here, ++ good lyircs, vere political (Much like System or Ratm)
Anyways.. There back together now *YAY*
-->Instert cool sig here<--
Excellent, another bump, another chance to Talk Radiohead...
Pop Is Dead...Oh man, that's one sorry sorry song
But How Do You is alright...I agree that Pablo Honey is by and large fairly crap (apart from You, Creep, and Anyone Can Play Guitar of course..)..Ah, wait! *Is struck suddenly* @Kam, is your avatar the plastic lizard off the inside cover? I don't remember it well...

The Vines are great although I fear the lads have been given way too much exposure from the British press. They will suffer from having too much high expectations placed on them when they start working on their second album. Seeing them in two weeks, but I have heard from Georgi that they do a decent live show.

If you ever fall off the Sears Tower, just go real limp, because maybe you'll look like a dummy and people will try to catch you because, hey, free dummy.

At the moment, Foo Fighters, they always seem to be evolving their sound, just heard their new single it does sound very good indeed. They have a new album coming out soon and definately worth keeping an eye out for.

Hmmm...They were lame at Reading
. I remember their new song, and was not impressed IIRC, but maybe it was lost in such a big space etc...
IMO - Vadim's new one is where your money ought to be.
Get The Art Of Listening (IIRC). I am very confident that it will be good
