@Dottie: You still haven't told me what educations you are interested in. ;) Is it a dark and horrible secret? :D

Oh no, now you have got me even more curious :D

What will it be? "Transformation-from human-to-unicellular-creature-program"? The program for expert cooking of mammal faeces? The paraphilia expose - a practical indroduction? :D ;)

@Thorin: Nooo... please, i wont do it again... or atleast i will try not to...

@CE :D well il let you know then... probably Civ.ing Data, if 1.8 wont be enough and i cant improve it il have to settle fos something else. Not much of a secret huh? :p

My ultimate goal is uploading  or rather to prolong my life but right now uploading seems the most promising way :)

@Dottie: Certainly not as horrible a secret as my suggestions :D

Uploading? What do you mean? The only uploading I know of is uploading data to internet and such.

Prolonging your life...well, many molecular geneticists have given an estimation of 20-50 years before that is possible in humans. (It is possible in other creatures)

As for me, the average longevity of Swedish females, 82.4 years, sounds quite enough... :D

Well... if you could exchange the brain something we could produce (like computer circuits) without loosing the continuity you could perhaps uphold some kind of consciousness.

I have seen something about extreme calorie restrictioning could also prolong your life.

For my own part i will settle for no less then a couple of thousand years, after that i dont know :)

"An inn, hmm"
*the women and harry are busy. nobody is at the bar. thorin creeps up, blasts open the money register, grabs the cash, runs out. ladies and harry don't notice.*

*thorin is running for his life. he knows georgi is watching, waiting. he needs to hide where? He hides in his own money sack and waits. listening. the georgi is near. near*

Poor thorin.

Good night people.

Hm, as a human brain researcher, I have to say we are quite far from achiving your goals of replacing the brain with electronical circuits...stem cell culturing might prove a faster solution ;) :D

Yes, extreme lowering of calorie intake prolongs life - in mice. We don't know about humans, but there are a few people who are testing the hypthesis :D

A couple of 1000 years  Sounds tiresome ;)

You are doomed, Thorin - nobody escapes the ruthless Georgi. Especially not when I have told her it was you :D

Yes, but as im not religous in any way i think that the ability to observe and contemplate will disapear with death. So long life is something that you just *have* to achieve.

@Dottie: I'm not religious either, but I don't mind the present human longevity. I would most likely live very differently if I thought I was going to live for 1000 years...

How horrible to see everybody else you know die - I suppose you'd like other people to live this long as well?

For you however, genetic engineering, stem cell research and neuroscience might need to speed up - it's not impossible :) :D

But consciousness with only sensory organs and no other body sounds no fun.

Living without a body and seing friends die definatly wont be that nice. The problem as i se it is that there is just no other option. While you still live there is always chance for some happiness and while mourning friends could be painfull there is always new ones that can be gained.

I cant explain this in a good way but the reason i want to live as long as possible is the same reason as why i dont take an overdose of heroine. This would make me very happy the rest of my life, though my life would be much shorter... Somehow it feels like one have to strive to survive at all costs.

Heroine has never attracted me neither, but in general, I'm more for a shorter and more intense existance than a longer, neutral one.

The ideal would of course be a long, intensly happy life :)

Have you read PC Jersild's novel about the brain in the jar who is living without a body, just a single eye to percept the world with? (Perhaps some auditory nerves too, I don't remember)
