LOL, yeah, I remember finishing of a couple beholders in the Unseeing Eyes quest, to notice that somehow, every beholder in the place was hot on a party members heels....and he was running towards me

Then there was that time in ToB when Saravock had that cool level draining sword and got charmed.....damn, I never knew how effective that weapon truly was :D

After trying normal methods and failing, I resorted to cheese: "The cloak of Mirroring, and The Shield of Balduran" :D

Those were overpowered, weren't they? :D

It's almost as easy just hasteing fire elementals and turning them loose on beholders. :D

Hey now! Dont dis the cloak. Some people actually intentionally avoided the ship ride, and they should pay for that. You go to the Sahuagin city, you deserve to get that cloak. And it saved my arse numerous times. :D I dont remember the shield.....

Never tried that.

And I hate charm....and I HATE web and entangle.....SO ANNOYING!

Way overpowered...and one of the reasons why at some parts the game was uber-easy.

BTW - The simplest way to deal with beholders for me was to go berserk, and have missile support (and pray for the best :D )

The shield was just the ultimate beholder cheese, except it was put in the game when you got the bonus merchants. Deflect beholder rays, so you just stand there and let'em kill theirselves off :D

Oh yeah. Now I remember it. Just dont remember where I got it. :D

And the Equalizer was the biggest item dissapointment. I though that since the components were so far from eachother and hard to get, I figured it would be the best item, and it turned up lame.

But as far as the beholders killing themselves off-I remember wearing the cloak in Ust Natha, and where you go into an arena to kill various creature, last came the beholder, and I just walked up to him, and he killed himself with his attacks...the drow were in such amazement that the beholder was killed, and they said [musters best drow voice]"What skill you must have!"[/drow voice impression]. Yeah. Standing about doing nothing requires much skill. :D But the only time where this was truly a negative is when the beholder actually carries something, and then they petrify themselves...its all over...the item is gone.

Yeah, that caused me to steer away form a few mage spells. Like Black Balde of Disaster, Disintigrate, I want my loot after the work is done.

Stiil without doubt, the single most awesome spell in that game was insect plauge. :D It's all I ever used for battleing mages. Of course, in IWD2, I have been plagued myself  But I do like the smarter enemies. It's a lot more realistic, and adds to the feel of the game

Oh, absolutely. I never used those spells. If youre not going to get the loot, how do you suggest you optimize your weaponery/armor? Buying stuff? Not good enough.

Hmmm...Im a conjurer, through and through. But I found insect plague quite helpful, indeed, but I never found myself looking for that spell. It helped against mages for sure, but Im more of a tank character, I like my forces full and my damage mighty. :D (But I still used the insects many times. I just didnt invest in it)
Well Id say probably cure wounds, or ressurect, restoration, or identify being the best spells in the game. :p :D And against the myriads of trolls you cant forget Melf's Acid arrow and Flame arrow. It became surprising to me how underrated a hobgoblin on your side is. :D I know theyre quite weak, but they helped me out in more situations then it would seem. And I just cant get enough of their dialogue. :D And certainly magic missile is a very good level 1 spell.

True, even the weakest summons can hold up the enemy just out of range while you let loose with a couple fireballs before charging in :D Of course, your summons die, but hey, who cares?

I never was much of a spell caster, but IP really helped me out in some spots. esp when I had to face multiple mages. I hate getting held, slowed, charmed, confused, of having to deal with summons. So I don't let them cast :D

Hehehe....but with the Hobgoblins I sort of felt bad when they died. :D Theyre the one summoned creature that Ive felt that way about. :D

Well I always use spell accordingly. If I know Im in for a tough battle, there is no hesitation to cast spells. If its an easy battle then its brute force. Now the middle ones, well....I often have debates with myself (not out loud, dont worry :D ) about whether I want to save certain spells for future battles.

But youre right, facing mages is truly the pits. Fortunetly, there wasnt an excess amount of mages in BG2. BG2 did favor a lot of creatures though, like trolls, vampires, umber hulks, mind flayers, and beholders. I find variety really helps a game, and I really disliked the amount of those creatures in BG2, and the Yuan Ti's (though they are very cool) in IWD1, but for some reason I never got tired of the gnolls in BG1...

Mind flayers were my most hated enemy until I discovered they are helpless against those Skeleton Knights :D Summon 4 of those, haste them and keep everyone else out of the way.

And Firkraag, no matter how many times I do that game, he gives me a fit. Even when I kill him somewhat easily, he usually fails to drop his loot

Now I gotta go back and play BG1 after IWD2....I finally bought it back again :D I'd like to get Morrowind, but I won't until I get a new graphics card. I just don't think mine will pull it.

I hated mind flayers because, not only were they hideous, but also, the way I killed them, it was tedious. I ran up to them, then hit them, then ran away before they could make an attack. It was slow going, but it worked. Now when they surrounded me.....thats loading time. :D

The first time I faced Firkraag, I killed him in 3 hits. Dont ask me how, but just like that, it was over. I couldnt believe it. And I was never able to do that again in the 3 or so times I tried to do that.

BG1, Im never going to go back to. I liked it, but then I didnt like it. I hated the fact you were just lost and wandering for so long...and there was no telling whether one set of woods was 5 levels higher then another set of woods, while this is realistic, its a headache to deal with, when you never really feel safe or confident. The game bugged out a bit with the Lothander Poison, so it was a real struggle, and not that enjoyable. Still, I played on.

Now Morrowind, you knew youd be free from plot. There is a main plot which is good to follow, but that essense of freedom really makes the game. But this RPG is completely different from the Black Isle games. No group, and theres first person mode. Its got a shooter feel to it. But it was really hard for me to grow tired of the game. After I completed 95% of the quests in the game, using 3 different characters and watching my brother go through it twice, I was ready to call it quits until the expansion. What I didnt know then, was that by the time the expansion was released, seraph took his stuff and the game and left the house. So no more Morrowind. :(

But, this game has a hefty requirement for computers. I mean seraph had to get an entirely new computer to run the thing. On his old computer, we thought it was loading the game, and then we moved the mouse, and very VERY slowly, and very VERY choppy the screen moved. It took 5 minutes to turn around. Just imagine how long it would take to just walk!

That's exactly why I ain't getting MW until I get that new card. I couldn't run it. Well, I guess I'll stick with BG, IWD, and probably Civil War Generals2....I got an itch to play that again

I'm out man. Take it easy :D
