Hi there Leon, and thanks for the feedback.
There are a few things to realize about your suggestions. I think they are good, and I wish it were possible. You should know that I am very constrained in what I can do by the game itself.
I can't create new armor "styles" such as robes, because they don't exist in the game itself as an option for player characters. Armor isn't just a "picture" in the game, it also exists as a 3 dimensional object. Have a look at these screenshots...
This is the 3 dimensional player model for the elf female. .
Notice how her legs are just "there" so to speak? The only armor textures that will appear on legs are going to be in the form of pants, because her leg area simply does
not support a robe style, nor will it display any type of robe.
Dungeon Lords did create a base model that wears a robe, however. I just happened to grab the elf, but amost all of the character models have the same potential.
Do you see the difference in the leg area? It is interesting that the game has the potential for player characters to wear robes, they just decided not to implement it. The thing to understand is your character doesn't put on clothing the same way you do. In a basic way, the game has to program all these changes in, so for example when your character puts on a helmet, they aren't just putting on a helmet...essentially they are putting on a whole new head. It makes for alot of work for the programmers, so I suspect that is why they decided to omit robes as an option for armor altogether from the game. Saves time and work....
As for the evil Samurai, I am looking at his model now, and there are many textures that simply aren't available to me. Dungeon Lords is not a game that supports "modding"
ie modifying. In other words the game doesn't support new player created content. The only reason I am able to make new skins is by re-using the same file names, and just making them look different. I can't rename things, nor can I add in new content because the game simply will not recognize it. It only recognizes what it is programmed to and there is no way for me to change that. What I am doing is just a graphics tweak. Sadly, I wish I could do more, because this game has so much untapped potential.
If I was very good at 3d modelling (which I am not) and if I was a programmer (most definitely not that) then perhaps there could be a work around for this, but it just isn't possible for me. Even if I could program the game to recognize something I make, I might use that for myself but could not take the responsibility of distributing it to others. I could also (possiblly) get sued for copyright infringment if I tried to do so.
I will look some more at the Samurai armor and the evil Samurai guy and see if there is anythng I can make.
