Smoke on the Water by Deep Purple simply because it's so frickin' awsome! Only problem is that Deep Purple's version seems a bit... lame. I prefer Black Sabbath's version, but I haven't been able to find a high-quality version of it Dream Theatre also did one, but I don't like it as much as Black Sabbath's... It was rainy and muddy... If you fell down you were doomed to drown in mud. So they had the choice of getting shot, or getting a slow death beneath the earth. Passchendaele is in "Flanders' fields where poppies grow" my dear... about 200 km from Germany. But you're right that a lot of people died on that side of the front (part of the Ypres salient). (BTW, they produce a nice cheese there).
No major trench battles were ever fought in Germany. The Western Front in WW I was from the mouth of the river Yser across western Belgium through France to the river Rhine.

Ok, I just had a talk with Lori today. I think I'm sending her this computer when I get my new one later this month. Seeing this thread, and keeping her in mind, I recalled one song that reminds me of her and my time with her every time I hear it. Probably because of the whole spanish thing.

"Closer" by NIN. I know, dirty song, but fond memories from a long time ago with Jenica. SOOO glad her mother never found out about that.
"Goodnight" by Dry Kill Logic. The only soft song I've ever heard them do and I think it is done wonderfully, and shows they really can do something that isn't hardcore metal.
"Black Dog" by Led Zeppelin brings back memories of Misty. That was a fun day.

The Morrowind theme moved me substantially, Jeremy Soule is quite talented, but the Oblivion track is lacking soul (no pun intended).
As a few 'techno' tracks have been mentioned... For An Angel by Paul Van Dyk, that piano sample sends shivers down my spine like few other compositions do, and Southern Sun by Paul Oakenfold - an incredibly uplifting sample with equally uplifting vocals (both technically trance )
A track or two more in the genre of electronica: Why Does My Heart Feel So Bad? by Moby, how three different samples repeated a dozen times over can move me so much I'll never know. North by Paul Mounsey; this guy is a genius in his own niche genre - for this particular track think Scottish folk presented for the contemporary ear, you can truly feel the wind blowing on your face.
It's been mentioned a few times, but personally I prefer Mr Cash's version of the song Hurt, with the video it is both inspiring and chilling.
Layla by Derek and the Dominoes - need I say more? Raunchy and so raw, no song has so visciously pierced me with its emotion.
With Or Without You by U2, in my opinion the best song they have ever performed and certainly one of my favourite tunes even though my opinion on the band varies from day to day. The best display of Bono's vocals, exemplifies The Edge's talents on guitar, and Clayton's most memorable bassline. First time I heard this song, even though it was built up to me by so many, tears gathered in my eyes.
Hans Zimmer has been mentioned a few times, but I'm not sure anyone's mentioned Now We Are Free with Lisa Gerrard- makes me melt everytime I hear it. Certainly one of the best vocal works of the past decade, despite any kind of discernable language being nonexistant it moves you in so many ways.
I think that will do for now, a few tracks from a few genres. Could go on with so many more music has has a large influence on my life.
The Morrowind theme moved me substantially, Jeremy Soule is quite talented, but the Oblivion track is lacking soul (no pun intended).
