The initial letter in this thread was actually posted on Onion about 10 hours after Bush won his first ellection. I am quite frankly getting a wee bit tired of bashing Shrubdom on the web or anywhere else. It's sort of out of vouge , like Frog-bashing, CNN News-bashing, Brit-bashing (food? eeeewwwww) or anything like that. Then, just when you thought it was safe to go back dissing your OWN home and politicians, you get this:

...and it all starts again. I scanned this personally from the last issue of "Total Film." It's much funnier and way scarier than anything written in jest, cuz this is REAL! I don't know what scares me the most, that this person is reading a pretty "liberal" (kussword invented in the US(tm) ) movie magazine, or that he actually worships these ideas without question, enough to voice them in public. Ammusingly, I've encountered this one both personally and on the 'net way too often to count. Party on, Donald and George.

Why does he have to 'worship' those ideas? Maybe he just saw it and thought it was funny, which it is! I think you're taking the british sense of humor too seriously!

Sarcasm is good! It's a proven fact that only a small percentage of the most intelligent americans understand british humor....for example Monty Python and Red Dwarf.

ummm Aegis, it was sarcastic mate....you know thats why I said sarcasm is good at the start.....damn it's never funny when you have to explain a joke.
But it is true that not many americans understand british humor. The two shows I've mentioned are very typical british comedy (well maybe not typical) and only a few americans have seen and enjoyed it, thats not meant to be derogatory either. So to get back to the point Giles initial post was funny to me and the mates I showed it too because it's just a piss take (excuse my french) it wasn't serious at all, not racist, not culturist or anything like that.

A Couple things, as has been explained on a couple of occasions, text has a way of coming off incredibly bad if written in a certain manner. That is why we encourage the use of smiles (

to show a few). This helps distinguish the nature of the post, and keeps misunderstandings to a minimum.

Second, you're choosing to write sarcasticly. Thats a very hard way of conversing while online. Refer to the above statement.

Third, British comedy is not so much misunderstood/unfunny in North America because people don't get it. It's because it's highly under-aired, in favour of more mainstream 30 blog punchline humour.

Lastly, with the amount of kicking US citizens get (both in the world, and on these forums), it's best to be considerate about what you're posting, to avoid unintentional flames, insults, or culture bashing.

I'm sorry if this was more US bashing (i know it happens a lot) But i didn't really see it as such. I just thought it finally proved british superiority

By the way, I'm posting as a member not as a mod, hence the teal-colored fonts.

I take no great pleasure in pointing this out to you, but you do come out too strong on the onset with your sarcasm, coupled with (as Aegis has noted) your lack of use of your smilies to show your exact sentiments...

...this is compounded by the fact that, well, you're relatively a newbie. A significant number of posters do not know you that much as to be able to determine your real piece of mind.

Compared to some oldtimers I know with an "attitude" like the Witch King, Waverly and yes, even Fas... we can detect when there is humor in their supposed "liners with an attitude" or if they really are serious in what they are saying.

Allow me to show some points. You said:

The Monty Python tv series was one of the top three rated tv shows for public television in the US back in the 1980s, when it was still fresh and relatively new. I know this, because I was still working for public radio at the time, and several of the stations I worked for (KERA in Dallas, Texas, WUFT in Gainesville, Florida, etc) had television sides with which we kept in close contact.

Monty Python, Red Dwarf, Are You Being Served, Keeping Up Appearances.. THese were all on public televisions in my dhome town in America.

Also, I think Young Ones was actually on MTV. Perhaps I'm wrong about the network, but it was on cable.. There are others too. I just can't remember them all. I'd say that's at least a working understanding.

Edit: BTW, I can't see the pic ir get it to come up in a window.. I'm wondering why??
