But no one takes the Bible completely literally, do they? I mean, some of it must be interpreted as metaphor, right?
As I recall, if the biblical genealogies are taken literally, day-for-day, then the world was created in 4004 B.C. October 24, to be exact, I think. The start of the Oxford school year.
To believe a doctrine and believe a religion you have to accept it, learn from it, teach it if you like but to take those words and try to connect them to another theory or religion simply doesn't do either justice, you can hardly have faith in a being that isn't sure whether he believes in evolution or not
I don't follow....
That there; exactly the kinda diversion we coulda used.
Yes people take it literally and yes people believe it is all true, every iota, i know quite a few of them. A creationist believes the world is 8000-10'000ish years old, so the whole thing is entierly plausable within that timeframe.

The Bible is considered the word of God, so mixing it with other religions or ideas means that God wasn't entirely sure what he was on about when he conceived of the bible and has just been winging it, does it make sense? I will re-explain if i am being too flowery in my explanations
<edit> for clarification.
I'd have to get drunk every night and talk about virility...And those Pink elephants I'd see.

I dont take it all literally, I think there are metaphors in there, but I believe everything in the Bible.
“Caw, Caw!” The call of the wild calls you. Are you listening? Do you dare challenge their power? Do you dare invade? Nature will always triumph in the end.

Sorry if i seemed to be making blanket statements for the entire Christian nation, i am not even a Christian myself, it is probably somewhat unfair of me to make wholesale generalisations.

No worries, Sleep. I didnt take any offense at it all. Everybody has their own point of view of the Bible, whether they are Christian or not. I consider myself to be very open minded of all points of view regarding religeon. I mean I have my point of view of the Quran and the Mahabharta, both of which Ive read, and felt were very interesting.

Have you checked out CM's QandA on Islam thread, it is very interesting.
Do you know any people who believe the Bible literally?

I think my sister does. She is very religeous. But Im not 100% sure. Also one of my best friends from high school is a very strict believer in Catholicism and I believe he might think that way aswell.
I might look at the Isam Q&A thread, though another one of my best friends from High School is Islamic, so when I have had questions about Islam, I turn to him.

You must have some interesting discussions with her, i have often found having conflicting ideas with a sibling can cause a little bit of tension and some very lengthy discussions...sometimes it is fun though

You know, thats why I always try to keep conversations with her away from religeon, however, the conversation is always steered in that direction. I feel I am lucky because I have 2 brothers and a sister and I very rarely have conflict with any of them. We use conflicting ideas as sparks for good conversations.

I know exactly what you mean, i only have to mention the word, Darwin and a shadow descends across the world. The interesting thing is for years i never ever used the word evolution for anything, the word itself was tabboo, as though it's very use was sacreligious
I like having the odd religious debate but it usually depends on who i am debating with...sometimes it is horrible

When is it horrible? When the other person has no idea what they are talking about? Or when you both agree on a subject?

When it stops being a discussion and instead becomes a one sided shouting match. It seems some people just don't like disagreers, either you accept what they say when they say it or you are wrong...i wish this was theory
Also there is this spirit world that is always used to stump me, ahh but it is all about faith etc etc etc, which when having a practical arguement kind of stops it in it's tracks
