Well...l337 is a language that i feel should be used. I mean after all none of the french or danish or other language threads were closed before. And besides I only use l337 in a thread that says it will be using l337.

Why does everyone use French or Gaelic instead of everyone speaking English? Because I feel that I have the right to use it and to confer information onto my fellow l337ers

What is the actual difference between it and using normal English, isn't it just the exact same words one uses in English broken up? I don't see what is gained from using it.

Actually we use when chatting in Dutch a fair amount of l337, but only to shorten words. A small example: in stead of "wachten" (=waiting) we type "w88" (8="acht" plural is "achten").

Because its the language of a given area, spoken by tens or hundreds of millions of people; the traditional language of that culture, in the case of French. In the case of Gaelic, it's an urban revival of an ancient language that has still be active in the countryside, and part of an overall attempt by the cultures involved to "take back their own" from English conquerors.

l337 isn't a language. A language has certain very clear parameters. Without meaning any offense, this is an attempt to appear hip and an effort at online bonding. It has no roots of its own, and will almost certainly vanish within a couple of years.
