i kinda vaguely remember something like that, and Mos Def/J5 is/are the dude(s). it's a bit academic though, 'cos there's not a hope in hell i'll find any of their stuff without travelling to a nearby city with a good record shop. :(

oh, and while i'm here, i would like to reccomend the bollywood brass band. the album i just bought of theirs is stunning, and i'm going to see them live in a month or so.

I've not heard of the Bollywood Brass Band... Are they really a brass band?

Ever heard the Bollywood Breaks CD?

Are they really a brass band?

indeedy. they re-arrange and play music from bollywood films.

Bollywood breaks? yes, but i'm dunno how good it would be. (then again, the bollywood brass band rocked - and there are some class remixes by various peoples - so it might be worth looking into)

LOL. I'm sold! :D Where are you seeing em?

No you misunderstand (I think). Bollywood Breaks is a real CD of trippy loops and breaks and Banghra (sp?) samples etc. It's made by a bunch of people I've never heard of (apart from Jazzanova :) ) but it rocks my socks....

i'm seeing them at the derngate theatre in Northamton - i think thet're touring the whole country.

i did realise the bollywood breaks thingy would be bhangra/generic Indian breaks with a modern take (hence 'Breaks' ), and it sounds sock rockin' indeed.

It's NOT from the phantom tollbooth, that was just a depressing coincidence, and i assumed no-one on this board would willingly admit to knowing of such things. how foolish i was...

no, only some scenes from it.

That's a shame, they were really good live, I thought the guitar and drums might sound a bit thin, but it didn't at all. And I hadn't realised Jack White was such a good guitarist. ;)

But some are even better live, plus sometimes you'll see something from a group of unknowns and go, "wow these guys rock!"

A few months later, they'll be on the charts ;)

Just about any band worth their salt should be better live, IMO. ;)
