Greetings, all!What'

I look forward to debating Georgi on the merits of the capital punishment. I do have an issue with the format of these debates.

I am on vacation with my in-laws this week, so my access to an internet connection can at best be considered unreliable. What is the time frame for arguements and rebuttals? If we are allowed a couple of days (or at least 24 hours) between replys, I will be fully able to participate. Is there a policy on this?

Good luck to all of the participants.

@HLD: It seems several people are away this week, Tom will be gone for over a week, and CM could not post until the weekend. I think we must realistically have a time frame of a couple of days for replies, otherwise it would be difficult for most of us. Since we are 8 people, there should be new posts often enough to keep up interest.

@CM and Sleep: I know Sleep decided CM has the honour, but if CM prefers not to start and is busy, I can post an opening statement just to get the thread going if you wish.

@CM: It does not matter to me, I have plenty of time at the moment. If I go first, I'll probably post something later tonight. Is that fine with you?

@CM: Bah, as I said previously, I'm not very good at argueing things I don't really think. And don't listen to Tom's unfair ad hominem - the fact that I learned to read at age 3 only make me the more demented and senile now ;) :D

I was reading at 3, I was given a reading age of 13 at 7, and was able to write my name in full before I started school at 4.5. :) and I am not good at arguing :D

So there you see CM, there is no connection, you should't listen to Tom, he is just trying to make people focus their efforts on me so he can take them down really easy with a sneak logic attack. :D

@Logic: I am not so familiar with your eduation system, what does 1270 PSAT mean, is that a very bad result that won't get you into any good colleges? :(

you don't have the SAT's where you're from? the PSAT is just a practice SAT, (scholastic aptitude test) there are 800 points for math, and 800 points for english. 1270 is just a little bit above average, so if i get a 1270 on my real SAT then my choice of colleges is going to be very limited. i certainly won't get into UCLA, Yale, Harvard or any really good school like that. that's why i need to study, my goal is at least a 1450. 1600's are very rare and difficult to get. average is about 1100.

Yes, we have SATS now, my son will be studying for them the next academic year, but not when I was at school. Our SATS go in levels, ie level 1 (lowest) 2 (the average) and 3. For literacy, there are also level 2a, 2b and 2c (2c being just below a 3)

Where are you from? :)

The united states, but actually we are slowly going to start getting rid of the SATs. in fact, schools right now are looking at GPA before SAT, before the SAT was more important. also, the SAT2's are becoming more important. i'm actually kinda sad, because my GPA is even worse than my SAT scores :( , well, community college here i come.

@Dottie - thanks, but I am not wading through that thread for answers :D

Hmmm...OC....

@Logic, ok - then your 'SATS' are different to ours. Here, SATS are a series of examinations and workshops to assess attainment following Key Stage education modules. The first are at age 7, the next at 11. Then at 16 you do your GCSEs and at 18 A levels and so on...

Ok. When someone hints they are not so new, I start thinking alter egos - not lurkers ;)

I agree - it is a great site :)
