Beetle, I don't like minsc or edwin, because my uber sorc is much better than edwin any day, and could whomp his ass better than elminster.
minsc is goofy and fun, but grating after a while, so I dropped him for korgan's bloody outlook on life.
So I don't know the global for that. look for minsc and edwin names as part of the string in the globals. maybe sabre could help?
I have to say that according to true power gaming, jan is a better choice than both imoen and nalia, however I HATE JAN!
his turnip jokes make me crazy. does this mean my real life personality is close to EDWIN!?!?
Creepy, as edwin has the most problem with Jan!
Possibly as I am korean, and greew up eating turnip kimchee?
I just hate the turnip jokes!
But if you take jan, think spike traps and domination spells. you miss out on necromancey, but take edwin along too. they are so nasty to each other its pathetic.
Never take anomen unless pure masochism is your ticket, as he is dual, not multi.
with tob exp cap, mult class are gods. used properly a fighter cleric multi can wipe the floor with any creature.
5 armor of faith, and you are invulnerable.
righteous magic, you are kensai
chaotic commands, open up mindflayers
shield of balduran, dead beholders.
dual weild foa and crom, massive damage.
Some advice please!?

I am multi-class Ranger/cleric but if I use this exp.cap won't it spoil my gamefun?
And hey... I am no sorcerer so I probably need Edwin!!! But I like Minsc too so I hope those two get along?! So my next problem is: who do I choose for some mage/thief abilities? Jan, Nalia or Imoen? I've not met him yet but according to your reactions I seem to go for Jan!
My team strategy? I am looking for 2 and 1/2 or 3 tanks (me:ranger/cleric hp over 100 so I am that 1/2, then Minsc and Korgan) then I am looking for 2 mages and a thief or so (I don't know if Haer'daelis is any good as a Bard???) So I gues I'll go for Edwin and then.... Imoen, Nalia or Jan???? And last Aerie or Jaheira?
Hope I finally get a good team together because I've been wasting my experience on NPC's that I don't use anymore like MAZZY and CERND!

OK, so here we go:
Ranger/Cleric: I would actually recommend a dualclass Ranger(9)/Cleric instead. You'll be able to put ***** in any chosen weapon, *** into dual wielding and you'll hit the XP cap for Clerics. No matter what you choose (it's first and foremost a choise of personal preference), I'll have to consider this a full Warrior and not a half as you suggested - there are so many Clerical spells that enhance your fighting skills and the Cleric's THAC0 is second only to the Warrior.
Minsc: Cause you absolutely wanted him. He's funny but not a NPC I favor. I would rather go for Valygar for instance. However, he has some great dialouges with Jan.
Jaheira: Romance interest. The longest and most complex romance together some rewarding personal quests. Very versatile with no apparent flaws IMO. She'll have to count for at least a half Warrior (although I know people who has used her as only tank, too).
Korgan: Amazing tank. My only objection is that I can't see any real need for him when you've got a Ranger/Cleric for yourself and Minsc (and Jaheira should you accept her) in your party. I would consider replacing him with Haer'Dalis - the ultimate teamplayer who, once you've learnt how to play him, you'll have a hard time to do without.
Edwin: *Lots* of spells and a "good" opposition school. You'll have to work a bit to get him but he sure is worth it.
Jan: The only thief who'll continue to progress the whole game through. Best dialogues ever, extremely funny. And also serves as your second mage.

OK...
Does anybody know if it's possible to keep Minsc and Edwin in the SAME team??? Because if Edwin is really all that I should go for him I think but now I am wasting all this experience on Minsc then???
And Minsc... how come you don't like him? I only gave him Lilacor (hope I got that right?! I'm talking about that talking two-handed sword!)
and he's doing more damage than Korgan equipped with 2 magical Battle axes!!!!
So if Korgan is better than Minsc... which I truly doubt, then I should change Minsc for Valygar or Haer'dalis?
... that is... if there's NO possible way to keep MINSC and EDWIN together...

There are different opinions about what causes the internal fights between NPCs. Some people have played whole games with for example Vic and Keldorn with no problem. Then others haven't been able to prevent the fights by *any* means. The fights are either totally random, in which case reloading would work fine, or timed, in which case rushing through the game might help. People have also tried to keep the NPCs apart from each other, having one of them in front and the other in the back, with, apparently, varying degrees of success. You could either try these tactics out, or you could install a Happy Script, which will prevent both internal fights and any NPC from leaving because of high or low reputation.Originally posted by Last Beetle:

Korgan *is* a better Fighter than Minsc. He will have both more HPs and a lower THAC0: the first thanks to higher CON and the latter due to Grand Mastery in Axes and other weapon of choise. His kit then gives him further advantages over Minsc. I would say that only Sarevok can go toe to toe with Korgan amongst the NPC Fighters.
You should play with the NPCs you want to play with. You can complete the game with any party - this is proven many times over by the people who solo. Myself, I find powerplaying incredibly boring. I prefer a well balanced party where all NPCs have an important role to play.
In response to your private message, I prefer Valygar to Minsc because he's more complex to play. Due to armor restrictions (and me not wanting to equip him with a shield) you cannot just rush him into any melee and expect he'll do fine. Most time he does but not always. On the other hand, he's an excellent backstabber and will dish out lots of damage really fast with Celestial Fury and the Corthala Blade. Come in by stealth, hit hard and then retreat.

It really depends on your style of playing. my style, super cheese, requires no tanks whatso ever. i enjoy the most finding ultra cheese spell casting techs and using a flock of m swords or skellys as my tanks...
most of my chars, korgan included, go hand to hand 10% of the time, if that.
Hmmm..
just got kevins tob patch, and I am planning to blow my saves and start over...
thinking of dropping korgan for minsc, he is a great archer and with points in crossbow, firetooth +4 is mine!!!
Korgy is just not as fun as I thought.
This is another reason I have not taken edwin yet, will someday for fun with the nether scroll, my uber sorc can provide for all spells needed in a party.

@Last Beetle:
You're probably using armor that is heavier than studded leather, right? You get the ability from start.
@UserUnfriendly:
What's so great about Minsc using a Bow? Valygar will do better (higher Dex), Mazzy will do better (Grand Mastery and higher Dex)...

I did a bad thing, I forgot to credit Sabre in the tob forum with the idea. here is the therad

He is the one who told ma about htis global. I am however somewhat competant with hacking games, so if you really want minsc and edwin,
get shadow keeper, latest version.
get a saved game just before getting edwin in a party wit minsc and just after.
open both in shadowkeeper, or take screenshots of the global vars.
in the one after edwin joins a party with minsc a new global var should show up.
by visually comparing the two game's global vas, you should be able to spot that. should look soemthing like edwinminscgrump or minscedwingrump.
once you spot that, go into the second game, and cuse the cntrl-i trick to advance dialogs until edwin and minsc start to make fighting noises. then save
open up third game in shadowkeeper, then you should see that var advance in value. That way you know you're looking at the right var and know how many dialogs can happen befoer they fight.
Or just ask Sabre!
I can't stand vaygars depressing attitude on life, and mazzie is great, I completely agree she is a killer tank and with a little work she becomes wicked. The short sword of mask is killer for her, level drain and entangle? gotta love that, and if you raise her enough you give her some profs in two handed and she becomes godly with greater whirlwind and the very nice shortbows in the game.
But as I've mentioned before, I like a combo of fun npc as the only criteria. my style of playing relies on uber spell power, so I have jaheira viccy an aerie always, and I always go real light on tanks, cause i summon inv stalkers and swords and skelly are my REAL tanks. besides, that hand o hand stuff is dangerous!
ets not forget the ultimate a planetar with globe of blades up. actually, I am getting to the opinion of the npcs jaheira is the ultimate tank, with her aura, glone and elemental transform.
Greater whirlwind? Vorpal weapons? Pfiffle...a good globe is better.
I hate to say it, but my warriors get little excersize in my party, as they are mainly there to use all the otherwise useless legendary blades I keep collecting.
Mazzie with her superb bow skills is great, but I keep thinking she's just too goody goody.
Maybe I am becomin chaotic neutra?
Since I am a cat lover, this is more and more likely.
