Anyway, more on topic, it might be possible to balance out a somewhat lower end/mid-range graphics card with plenty of RAM. When I originally played Morrowind I had 128 MB RAM and a *very* basic graphics card. I bumped up my RAM to 384 MB, which made a really significant difference. And then, after a while, I bought a better graphics card as well.
It was the new card that made the biggest difference to gameplay, but the initial RAM increase helped greatly as well.
AFAIK this only works when your RAM is not in balance with your processor and videocard, so that it becomes a bottle-neck. If your system is balanced the extra RAM won't help much because the processor can't use all of it.

Those who forget the past are condemned to repeat it.

It is very easy. Simply a matter of opening the case, removing the old card, inserting the new card, closing the case, starting up the system and installing the drivers for the new card.
The hardest part will be getting a card for the type of video card slot your system has (AGP, PCI, PCI-E, etc.).
A system will use as much RAM is available and needed. When possible a system should have at least 512MB of RAM and preferably 1GB.
You also need to keep in mind that those articles were stress tests and were attempting to run the game with every setting enabled for the best possible quality picture.
You shouldn't need a new system from Alienware in order to run the game. You just won't be able to set the settings to their highest detail setting. Usually a video card upgrade is enough to get you by for a year before needing to upgrade your CPU.
I think you'll be fine with an Athlon64 3700+ and a 7900GT.
That would be a fine gaming system.

Great spirits have always found violent opposition from mediocre minds. The latter cannot understand it when a person does not thoughtlessly submit to hereditary prejudices but honestly and courageously uses their intelligence.

I'm probably going to wait for G8X and R6XX, so that I could play on 1280x1024@HDR max settings without breaking the bank.

The evil nature of GameBanshee revealed below!
GameBanshee sells Xandax to make ends meet
Then, as if that was not enough, they decide to get rid of me via sweepstakes as well

Are you sure you can wait that long?
You know you want to play. :mischief:
