Originally posted by Minerva I totally agree. I rather pay to the full membership directly to GameBanshee than a third party who will take a part of the membership fee.
Thats a good idea, but what of those that cannot pay for a membership?
If nothing we do matters, then all that matters is what we do.
Just to let you all know, I am currently contracting a team of people to write an in-house subscription service for GameBanshee. Subscription will not be required to view the site, but subscribers will get perks such as no advertisements, popups, etc and other things such as being able to give themselves custom titles here in the forums. I have some other ideas for incentives as well, but it will be a few weeks until the coding is done, so I'll have to see how everything turns out first.

Awesome, Buck. This sounds promising.

Don't mind you leaving flashlight, thoese sites connected to it sucked anyway (well -except GB) and would there for much rather pay a subscription to GB then to Flashlight.
@Buck That's a really good idea.... I would join for sure as soon as I can get a steady income besides allowance...which should be about this summer sometime...
@Xandax..... you mean flashlink, right? not flashlight...

w00t! I like custom titles. Can I also recommend a little logo or line of code saying Subscribed Member or something like that? It would give an advertisment to the subscriptions service...

Wouldn't the fact that they've got a custom title say the same thing?

I don't mind the pop-ups too much - they're pretty infrequent.
Has Buck ever thought of having a sort of a telethon? Set a goal of what he needs for the year for the website to operate, and let people know how close their donations are getting to the goal. I guess that one of the frustrating aspects of donations is that you have no idea whether it's helping much.

Right before GameBanshee went to Flashlink, I mentioned the idea of a "Spamathon" to a couple of people, but then the subscription thing went live and never pursued the idea. I think an active fundraiser once or twice a year would be a good way to generate some income without having to rely on monthly (an inconsistent) donations or ad revenue. Hey, it works for PBS.
One other thing, has anyone noticed one of the ads running a script that wants to install a program on your computer? I don't mind the popups, but I just wonder what sorts of things this program is installing.
