There are lot's of other good games to play. Planescape Torment, BG, Morrowind, Fallout. I have played them all, and loved them all. Especially Planescape Torment and the Fallout serie.

I highly recommend Planescape: Torment. It might be a few years old (so what?), but for quality of storyline, dialogue, and environmental richness, it can't be beat, not even by BG2, which is one of my favorite games of all time.

Torment is less focused on combat than it is on looking for clues, completing quests, and conversing with all of the characters you meet. To some, that's a drawback (the combat in BG2, especially with spells, can't be beat), but to me, intelligent dialogue is a plus.

The subject matter in Torment (and the dialogue) is definitely "mature". By "mature", I don't mean that you have to create huge piles of corpses (which in my opinion is the mark of a "juvenile" game); I mean that the characters talk like intelligent, modern adults, and the themes are "mature". Again, by "mature", I don't mean that the themes involve innuendo and violence (which, again, in my opinion are the mark of a "juvenile" game); I mean that the game assumes that you as a player have a mature attitude towards life and death and other issues of consequence. There's plenty of intelligent humor and a mild amount of profanity ("bastard" and "damn" are about as bad as it gets, if you're worried about it). You can certainly turn your character into a badass and kill lots of monsters if you want to, but the primary focus of the game is much more cerebral. The dialogue (both the text as well as the voice-acting) just plain blows away anything you've seen in BG2, and the characters and the city of Sigil come alive like you wouldn't believe. Keep in mind that I am speaking as a big fan of BG2, which I would still play over and over again.

I also recommend that you give Baldur's Gate (the original) a try before you play Throne of Bhaal.
