I was playing a half-orc barb a while ago. He had about 140 at level 9!!!!!!!! Thats with 19 con too. I truly recommend playing a barbarian at least once. Especially if you roleplay it. It kinda fun acting like an idiot and killing everything in sight!

@ THE JAKER,

There is a patch that allows you to dual a barbarian to a thief. I am running one right now, almost done with throne of bhaal. Consistent backstabs in excess of 120 which kills most opponents. You can't specialize but he has proficiencies in halberd (ravager), staff (staff of the ram), katana (celestial fury), scimitar (Usuno's blade), long sword, two handed sword, flail, crossbow, short bow, and bastard sword with two ++'s in katana and flail (for SoA reasons). All of his inventory slots are taken by various weapons and he just picks and chooses his implements of destruction. After using ravager for a while, I don't see why you would use any other weapon.

I'll see if I can find it stored in my favorites folder when I get home tonight. It was an odd site where I found the patch.

Boy after reading most of these replies i feel sorta stupid with my barb. This is my first time playing Baldurs Gate 2 and I chose Half-Orc, Barbarian. Lol and im acting like a lawful good paladin. That's the way i usually am. Always the good guy doing the right thang. Anyway I like the barbarian but my guy is at level 14 and his hp is around 120. By the way im only on chapter 3 lol. Im finishing the sewer quest. Hmmm.... If only i remember where i put that useless staff if found off that dead animal i killed. Looks like long searching for me.

level 1-9 base: 9 x 10 = 90 (maxed out)
level 1-9 Con modifiers for Con 19-20 (BG1 Tome of Bodily Health and/or the Machine of Lum the Mad): 9 x 5 = 45
Level 10-40 fixed 3 per level: 31 x 3 = 93
Deck of Many Things: 10
Hell Selfisnhess test: -2 (if you're Good)

Sub-total: 90 + 45 + 93 + 10 - 2 = 236

Blessed Bracers: 10
Ioun Stone: 10% (base, I believe)

Total: 236 x 1.1 + 10 = 270

That how you got it?

Don't feel badly. Remember, there is literally no one good way to play. *Every* profession has its good and bad points, and is perfectly playable. Unless you're a powerplayer who needs to wrack up the most experience points and goodies, just enjoy the view, and immerse yourself in the gameplay. That's my advice, for what little it's worth. :)
To the Righteous belong the fruits of violent victory. The rest of us will have to settle for warm friends, warm lovers, and a wink from a quietly supportive universe.
