CM,
Lucas has already said this one is much better. He's pleased with the product more so than the phantom menace. That movie was tough because it was tough to accept a kid as the hero.

No,
TPM was bad because George was obsessed with eye candy instead of the story, Jar Jar Binks and because the movie lacked a compelling villain.

Yes HLD, those things included as well. Jar Jar was awful, and darth maul was nonexistant. The kid hero bothered me the most and Lucas actually addressed that issue as a problem with the movie. I don't know how easy it will be trying to retrieve that article but I can look for it.

Back to spider man...
I saw it friday and loved it
It had a decent plot, nice action, a few good characters...but the truth is I liked it because I found spider man's agility to be extremely sexy...

Two words: Harry Potter
Loads of movies have a kid as the hero. Jake Lloyd is just the wrong kid. Plus all that other stuff wrong with TPM.

Another one of my gripes with Spider-Man is that they overdid the "Peter Parker is a geek" angle. He's always been a great protagonist because he had everyday teenager problems: dating, zits, social maladjustment, etc. However, I never got the feeling from the comic books that he was bullied or otherwise at the bottom of the social coolness ladder.
In the movie, I think they harped too much on the whole, "Peter is so put upon because he's such a nerd that even the bus driver piles on whenever given the opportunity". I thought that he still could have been sympathetic without being pathetic.

I saw it and thought it was great!!! It was the best adaptation of a comic book that i'd ever seen in a movie. Yes, some things were different but the character portrayals were perfect, you have to remember that this is about 20years of Spidey roled into 1 movie. Peter Parker has to be wimpy like he was with Gwen Stacey, not confident like he was with MJ. So it was very hard to pull it off, but overall it was a great job. It is worth seeing ,for anybody that's wondering. I am looking forward to Star Wars, but I don't think it will make as much as Spiderman.

Hey there is nothing wrong with Harry Potter.
You just have to accept that there are certain situations where incredibly young children will be able to out smart their much older and wiser counterparts.

I think there are plenty of bad films without a kid as the hero
Just look at 8mm (or don't!)
Though having a kid as the hero does usually mean the movie is aimed mainly at kids... Maybe it was a marketing ploy by George Lucas. He knew all the adults would go to see TPM because Star Wars was part of their childhood, so making a kid the hero was trying to sell it to kids who don't remember the originals. Hmmm. Anyway, on reflection I guess it's true, Obi-Wan and Qui-Gonn should have been the heroes in TPM, not the brat.

8MM wasn't that bad a movie, just avarage.
If you want to see a lousy movie see "young einstein"
And you're right about Anakin, he stole the glory of obi and qui-gonn.

Me too. Reminds me of the new Simpsons episode last night. Homer has a fantasy where he's flying in a hang-glider and shotting lasers and the people below. "You can run, but you can't GLIDE! Hahaha!!!"
