Roleplayin g VS Powergaming: which do you prefer?

Well it's very nice to have one char in your party with all the best stuff on. I have went around and grabed all the stuff that does the best job for protecting against magic users and the like and put it on my fighter. That way when I have some tough mage to go against I can use him to charge and kill the mage without puting much thought into it. As it seems he is pretty good at running around on his own to :) which if I want to get through something quick I just order him to go out on his own and kill everything while the group hangs back. I guess it is hack and slash but somtimes i feel like not puting a ton of effort into each battle

And what if you play an Half-Orc Barbarian with 6 intelligence?
IMO, roleplaying is when you do what your character would most likely do according to his class/alignment/stats/personality. :)
