fable wrote:No: nothing in Oblivion is active once the game stops running. But if you want to be absolutely sure, just do a CTRL+ALT+DEL, bring up your Task Manager, and under the Processes tab, look for Oblivion.exe. If it's not there, Oblivion is gone.
Just FYI, but that approach isn't a guarantee. You need a better process explorer to be sure. The task manager does not show all running processes or orphan processes.

Oh! Right! Sorry, I misunderstood. :o

Rule out that the keyboard layout (software-wise) matches your physical keyboard as well. It's probably not the real issue, but it's best to just check and have it over with. I think all modern Windows systems show little pictures of keyboard layouts as you browse through what one can safely call a catalogue of them. Should be quick to check.

II'm currently running AVG (I've had it for over 2 yrs) which seems very good.
Have you tried disabling AVG, before playing?

No. The thought of disabling my antivirus makes me break out in a cold sweat! A previous computer of mine was ruined by worms that Norton never noticed and I've been scared to turn off the antivirus ever since. Is it safe to do that? Even off-line? And how do I turn it back on again if I do?

Right-click on the AVG icon in the bar at the bottom right of your screen. It should have an option pause protection. Just choose that. You should then be able to unpause it, pretty much the same way.

I just have the option of a Microsoft keyboard (which I haven't used for ages) and a generic keyboard. I can't find a disc or floppy for this Aries keyboard, so I can't activate the Windows buttons or the Print button, or the Volume buttons, or e-mail button. Funnily enough, the Standby (sleep) button works fine, and I don't need it! I only found out it worked by accident.

The only time I ger a 'pause' option is if a scan is running. Otherwise, there seems to be no way I can discover of disabling it, apart from removing the programme - and I'm not going to do that!
Besides, the game has running fine with AVG previously, so I don't really think AVG is responsible, and I can find nothing else that might be causing the problem. I have considered removing Oblivion and expansions then re-installing, but that's such a pain in the butt, cos you have to update which can take an age; especially since the damn net is so slow at the moment, (which is probably my service providers fault).
