Yesterday, there were threats against the community college here in town - for what reason, I don't know, probably copy-cat violence. My daughter's day-care is near one of their branches. Needless to say, we picked her up early....

What is article 5 of NATO?

I know I said I was leaving but I feel this is very important...

Re Gwally's signature "Give Blood":

According to the RI Blood Center, it is NOT good for everyone to jam the blood drives in one fell swoop. Due to the short shelf-life of many transfusion products, they cannot preserve so great a quantity of blood; and at some point the donated blood will become worthless. And the thousands who donate all in two or three days won't ba able to donate agian for another 8 weeks.

What they want, rather, is for people to stagger their donations. So that there's a more steady stream of donations every day. Not thousands in one blow. SO it may be best to wait some days, or even a week or more.

Also don't forget, there is going to be a strain on the local blood supplies because of this. So they are going to need donations for a long time yet.

Just thought I'd share that, for those who might be thinking about donating :)

Good point Loner. I haven't gone to give yet, because the lines are very long. I was planning on waiting a few days. I was thinking in terms of stressing out the people who take the blood, since crowds of people can make the work harder. But its a good point to wait a bit in order to keep the blood supply fresh.

It's the article that says an attack against one of the NATO countries in considered an attack against the alliance as a whole.

In other words - NATO as an alliance consider themselves attacked and all the 18 NATO countries will give full support with military, intelligence and political/diplomatical resources. If the US is at war, NATO is at war.

The Arab and Muslim world and people will probably be stigmatised for a long time... :( I feel very sorry for all those 250 million people who have nothing at all to do with the terrorist attack :( And Israel has said they will now take stronger acting against the Palestinians :(

I'm sorry to hear about all your family has gone through :( I hope you will have a more peaceful life in the future.

@Ysh: A lot of things will change in the UK too. More than here in Sweden, certainly.

I hope everything turns out for the best.

Sadly my friends father hasn't come back. He's been crying for the whole day. I feel so bad.

Please give him your full support. I know what it's like to be without it - we're in that boat now.
There's nothing a little poison couldn't cure...

What happened here was the gradual habituation of the people, ... to receiving decisions deliberated in secret; to believing that the situation was so complicated that the government had to act on information which the people could not understand, or so dangerous that, even if he people could understand it, it could not be released because of national security.

I'm sure you will give your friend all support you can even though you feel incredibly bad yourself :( I hope your father is OK - he must be totally devastated having witnessed the attack and having his building collapsed :(

Today I'm feeling tired and gloomy. The cloud and rain we're having isn't helping. I've been loaded with 3 major assignments and in no mood to work. :(

Oh no! :( I feared this :( Israel has not only gone in with tanks in the Palestinian area in
Genine(sp?), now they have entered Palestinian terrotory in Jericho with tanks as well :(
The Palestinians are demostrating on the streets of Jericho. The Middle East analysts at BBC believes Israel is acting because they feel they will be less critised now when US have been attacked, presumably by Arab fundamentalist :(

It seems the attack on US is destabilising the Middle east even more :(

I'm watching the BBC news. I can't even start to imagine the horror of lying there severly hurt, crammed in all the debris :(

The rescue workers are pessimistic to find any more people alive :( :(

This brings up a scary thought that probably no one here wants to consider, but do you think it is possible that Isreal was behind this attack for that purpose? It doesn't seem likely to me, but... :(

@SS and JB: I certainly think it's very unlikely, since Israel is struggling to get acception for their acts the last year, from the rest of the world. The US has always been supporting Israel, and just imagine what's at stake for Israel should they carry out an attack on the US and be caught! The would have made an fierce enemy out of the only powerful state who has supported them the last time.

I rather think Israel, sadly, is taking the opportunity now when the world's feelings of suspiscion against the Arab world has increased radically :(

9 people killed, 30 injured in Jenin. Eye witness report from Jericho says about 20 attacks has been carried out there.

Israel had previously withdrawn from Jenin, but now they say it's a "hornet's nest" for suicide bombers. The invasion of Jericho, a previously peaceful area, has not been explained yet AFAIK.
