"Anericans are actually an offshoot of the Parent country Germany. Canada is similar but a bit more Celtic generally speaking."

I have used the Enigma device to devulge the true meaning of this post:

@AT99, I don't think you're a racist. I've heard some of the same allegations before about the English and America, usually from friends of mine whom I call affectionately "the Celtic fringe," or occasionally, when they're in Mafia-agressive mode, "The Post-Raphaelite Brotherhood." ;) Problem is, when you're not in a group that explicitly believes and implicitly reinforces unsupported comments like these, you're quickly called to stand and deliver.

I suggest you take a deep breath, and quietly, calmly, explain some of the points you've made. In the meantime, with your permission, I'd like to discuss my disagreements with one or two of 'em.

Wheres the celtic accents? Most mythology in this Game is based on the Celtic culture who are NOT English.

Yes, Elves are Celtic, but dwarves are Scandanavian. Kobolds are Middle-Europa. Sorcerers and such are found in Ancient Greek, Chinese and Indian literature, in detail. (Yes, fireballs and all.) Barbarians are by the American Robert Howard, who never secured a copyright on 'em, alas. The fantasyworld of BG2 itself is generic pseudo-medieval, and certainly doesn't have anything to do with some romanticized Celtic Paradise.

Initially Americans were from Germany, England and Ireland (largely germanic).

This is demonstrably inaccurate. Thoough the government of the British Colonies was obviously British, it has to be remembered that Britian gained control of many of the colonies by force, purchase, or subterfuge from other nations, and those colonies' inhabitants didn't simply ship off to a land they only remembered from their parents' and grandparents' comments. New York was predominantly made up of Hollanders. (Dag, Flagg!) A significant portion of the inhabitants of Pennsylvania came from Middle Europe. (A tradition that continued, later. The Secretary of the Treasury under Thomas Jefferson, for example--who almost became US President--was of Swiss birth and citizenship.) Several southern colonies were huge penal colonies run by Britain (not unlike Australia in later times), and teemed with anybody caught in the many continental wars that Britain fought with its neighbors. Many French firms owned large tracts of land and profitable businesses throughout all the colonies, a fact that really cheesed John Adams. The myth of an America formed out of British stock is just that, upon investigation: a myth. There were lots of English, Irish, and Germans, but more than enough of other nationalities to seriously concern the Colony authorities about possible revolts, on a continuous basis.

Great usage of the enigma device doc :D :D F*cking hilarious post of his...
Come not between the Witch King and his prey, or he will not slay thee in thy turn, but will bear thee away to the houses of lamentation, beyond all darkness, where thy flesh shall be devoured, and thy shrivelled mind be left naked to the lidless Eye.

Scots and Irish people are excellent grunters, by the way. The phrase, "Always after me Lucky Charms", when said with a thick enough Irish accent, comes out "Og ochay guh nogerblugho," which roughly translates from the Paleolithic Grunt to "I hate getting cavebear hair stuck between my teeth" :D

Shortly thereafter we hear gails of laughter from Vixen as Paleolithic Grunt must explain why Mini-Paleolithic Grunt seems to be going extinct and refuses to fossiliize. :D

OMG. I just heard that, sick with embarrassment, at99 attempted to flush himself down a public toilet. :(

Ironically, he misunderstood his father's book, it was actually pictorals of german bondage. 'Teutonic Temptress IV' look for it at your local newstand.

@Gruntboy, your typically keen powers of observation have fastened upon just the exact mood at99 has created up here, and his probable reaction. :) I only hope he will come back, though. If there's one thing worse than an untenable argument, it's an untenable argument that's been abandoned at your doorstep.

Soooo - this is where this thread moved to then. Hmmm - I wondered why I had been hiding in shadows for so long awaiting a response on the BGII board (which admittedly this thread did not belong). You know, statements made then never quantified?

Anyhow being of Saxon/Celtic origin (Mongrel! you cry!) this was my response there. I just wanted to say my sixpenneth worth, you know being English and all that!

We need to remember that the original posting referred to did not discuss a true English race, merely the relevance of London and American accents in the Middle Ages. This subsequent thread went on to deny that England (never mind America!) was even a country in the Middle Ages...

I did not realise that the purity of the 'English' race was being discussed, only the relevance of certain accents in what, the middles ages? In which case the '****ney' and American accents would not have been relevant either.

The land, now known in English as England, was populated before the Saxons, Normans, and Romans. Though we would have been leading a more druidic, heathen and less 'civilised' lifestyle (and some of us still do!) - we would have still had means of communication.

Like any tribes anywhere else in the world, the 'kingdoms' of Celts and Picts were practising genocide before the 'introduction' of the 'civilised' churches and faiths, and these battles were high still under Henry VIII and his Church of England crusaders. (And still go on to this day, less bloody though, with even the Cornish claiming not to be English....)

So we are diluted by invading influences. Influences we have a lot to thank for.

So, regarding the purity of race, unless you are a Basque, no-one here can claim it. And regarding the accuracy of accents in BG - then maybe we should all be playing the German version with some of our NPCs being Italian and Mongolian.

Let's face it - it is a game for crying out loud! A bit (no a lot) of fun that should not spiral down to discussions so unrelated. Don't get me wrong - I am not just pointing at you at99 - there was another thread that could have deteriorated just as quickly (and probably has). It is just a general personal opinion. I do not mean to upset anyone or accuse anyone directly.

Personally I believe some of these threads are getting a little bit off subject and I would not be too disappointed to see them removed, especially if they are causing debate over personal comments and issues raised. (Forum rule No 6)

Besides - we all speak the same language on this board - well most of us anyway! hehe!

Happy GAMING everyone! let's get back to playing!

Hmm. Yes. Well my name translated does actually mean 'pure' in greek. Oh no! now we have greek undertones...

And King Arthur was a Taltos - ask the Talamasca! ;)
