Rofl, nice tips all :)

I tend to let men pay, because usually it's the man who has asked me out. Just seems more natural if he pays then (also I'm broke) :D

If I were to ask the man out, it might be a different story :)

Viv, even if you ask a man out, you still hope in the back of your mind that he pays, right?

I don't want to go on a date where I'm completely paid for. I feel like I *owe* the guy something at the end.

I remember a former colegue of mine kept a list of things he buy for his GF. When he breaks up with the girl he give her the list and ask for a refund. A real jerk huh ?

I have some friends, anthropologists all, who utilized flowers in a way I would not agree with. She taught several classes at the University, and at the beginning of each semester, he would always send flowers to her. The delivery person would have to bring the flowers right into the class room at the start of class. He would claim that he was just supporting her teaching efforts. She understood that he was actually marking his territory, "Its just his way of pissing on me," she would say. I think it also showed his tendency to belittle her with his "support" and his own self doubts. They later divorced, of course.

The last time I brought flowers to my wife, she said "What'd you do?" I told her that she needed to end her maternity leave because she was starting to act like a wife! :D

Why do people think like that? (No Flames, I'm just asking the question.) If I take someone out, I want to have a good time. If it happens it happens, but I don't force the issue. That's too much pressure, for dinner and a movie.

If I had done the asking, I was always willing to pay, but if my date wanted to contribute it was fine by me. I used to regard women as goddesses, who deigned to spend time with me. Consequently, I tried to make sure they were comfortable and enjoying themselves. I never expected reciprocity, and always let the woman take the lead on, uh, shall we say.. the more physical aspects? But, my beef has always been that, even in this enlightened age, women are not nearly as aggressive as they could be. I actually heard complaints that I didn't try anything!

It's either he didn't do anything, or I think he had more than two arms.

I would agree, but not in the same way that the rest of you are implying. I guess it's a question of feminism, you can't go around demanding equal treatment all over the place and still be wined and dined, as it were. The tradition of men paying for everything stems from the fact that men used to be the sole breadwinners. These days, a woman can earn just as much, so why shouldn't we pay our way? I don't see why the guys should have to pay the whole time. Of course, it's nice to be treated sometimes ;)

Exactly ;)

@Kramor wouldn't it be the polite thing to let the lady win? :D
Oh, and what you said before, while there are guys like you about, I think there are probably also guys who are going to be annoyed if they spend money and don't see any *ahem* result. But they should get a life. :D
